« Giants Like Kotchman And Mathis | Main | Heyman Discusses Huston Street »
The Marlins put infielder Jose Castillo on waivers today, though they have the option of pulling him back. It seems like a way to gauge interest. The Marlins may prefer to let Jorge Cantu play third regularly, as he's had a strong spring and has a decent track record (insert obligatory 117 RBI season mention here). The Marlins also have Dallas McPherson in the mix if he can get healthy.
Castillo could make sense for the Dodgers given his versatility, though he's never hit much.

Copying the White Sox I see.. LOL j/k. It will be interesting to see if this affects the value of other infielders available at this point. I can think of 4-5 off the top of my head.

It is also likely that this move is to make room on the 40 man for Jorge Cantu, as the 40 man is currently full and it seems Cantu won the 3rd base job.

I'm sure the Marlins would love to add another pitcher from the Dodgers.

I suggested in another thread that one of the two...Cantu or Castillo...would probably shake loose, and I think Castillo makes a viable answer. I wouldn't trade anything for him though; he'll clear waivers.
Plug him in along with Abreu and then you can release him if he's struggling when Nomar gets back or keep him if he's doing well.
