« Brian Roberts Rumors | Main | Pirates Make Offer To Snell »
White Sox center fielder Brian Anderson has had a roller coaster career, though he's only 26. The former first-round pick entered the '06 season as Chicago's starting center fielder, but he didn't hit enough to keep the job. BA didn't make much noise in '07 (aside from comments he made to Scott Merkin).
Now Anderson is making the good kind of noise, hitting .351/.442/.568 in 37 spring ABs. He's battled his way into the Opening Day picture, especially with Jerry Owens and Carlos Quentin ailing. Anderson is leading all players in spring ABs, which would almost indicate a showcase. All sorts of teams have had interest in the past, including the Marlins and Rangers. However, Anderson still has two options so there's no pressing need to trade him.

Nice little piece here Tim. I hope the Sox can sell high on him or package him with Crede to get more value in return.

The Sox would have traded him two years ago if they were selling high...that train has left the station buddy.

With Quentin and Owens hurt, they might have to start the season with Brian in left field.

If we could only get rid of thome and dye, we could have a young potentially stellar OF with BA, swish, owens and quentin, paulie/crede and fields can platoon at dh. too bad its only a dream

Yes, let's get rid of 63 HRs and 174 RBI's last year. Especially since Dye hit just under .300 in the second half when he got over the injury.
Brilliant.

Really great idea to turn your lineup from, when completely healthy, one of the most devastating in all of baseball, to a slower version of the KC Royals. Great idea WhiteSoxFan. More than anything right now, Anderson is playing himself into a trade, as is Uribe. Both are having excellent springs, but neither will start on openning day.

What they should do is try to move Thome or Konerko, they could get a slew of prospects in return, move Swisher/Dye to 1st/DH, and allow Brian, Jerry, and Carlos to battle it out for 2 outfield spots.

jimmy, Thome has a "no trade" clause. And we have already talked about Konerko's worth.

You can keep your mancrushes on old aging players. I would prefer to atleast attempt to look to the future and develop younger players. Dye is a risk in the OF cause he cannot run anything down, great arm, but he can barely ever use it. If there was a way to get rid of dye and thome (not to mention their salary), surely that would bring pitching prospects or mlb ready pitching

You say Dye is a liability in the OF, but not once have I seen him make a mistake, or miss a ball someone "younger" could have gotten. He won a Gold Glove earlier in his career, while the award doesn't automatically make him the best fielder in the world, it would lead me to believe he has plus defense. I doubt it has diminished as much as you say it has.
If Anderson can hit, he should start CF. He is far and away the best defensive CF in White Sox camp. Right now though, the White Sox want Jerry Owens and his legs to start in CF. If you listen to Ozzie Guillen, he talks like Owens is in CF, Swisher is in LF, BA is gone, and Quentin is on the bench.
I think that is what the White Sox view as the best case scenario, assuming all of them are producing. Swisher will only play CF if Owens and BA do not. They have him in CF on the website's DC, but that is not really accurate.
I would like to see Anderson start in CF, but if Owens can effectively lead off, I would take that instead. Quentin and Swisher will be on the team opening day. Where depends on Anderson and Owens.

You have to seriously consider the Cubs as having an interest in Anderson. No offense, but they need someone good, right-handed, but just crappy enough to not threaten Pie. KW and Hendry could easily hook up...
Who would the Sox want back?

Well, Dye runs perfectly well to the ball and cuts it off, after it hits the wall. He's slow. I think he has one of the strongest arms in any OF but he's too slow for me.
I understand we play in a hitter friendly park, so we value power moreso than speed, but between thome, paulie, dye, crede and aj... yikes, an outfield of anderson/owens/swish/quentin/ramirez would be great defensively. offensively, swish and owens will be fine, anderson has to come around for someone (hopefully us) and ramirez and quentin have stellar potential

as for the anderson to the cubs, no offense, but i don't want anyone from the cubs, and that goes for the royals
Posted by: whitesoxfan424 | March 10, 2008 at 05:10 PM
I know you guys need pitching; don't be afraid to ask!
Posted by: jrfukudome | March 10, 2008 at 06:14 PM
whitesoxfan424, you don't want anyone from the Cubs or Royals? What if the Cubs offered Zambrano, Hill, Soriano and $160 million? Or if the Royals offered Alex Gordon, Billy Butler, Mike Moustakas, Daniel Cortes, Luke Hochevar, and Joakim Soria? You would turn down those deals?
On a more realistic note.. I would be shocked if Kenny Williams couldn't find anyone he liked from the Cubs. Hart, Petrick, Mateo, those seem like young pitchers you should be interested in. Or maybe even Eric Patterson. The Sox don't have anyone long term at second. Uribe sucks, Alexei is a huge wild card, and I'd be shocked if Richar had a productive career. Patterson would have the highest upside of any of them, and would be ready to play some this year. He could even play some center with Jerry Owens if they moved Swish to a corner or first base.
So I'm gonna have to say that Eric Patterson for Brian Anderson seems like a pretty solid trade to me.
