I don't think it's at all clear what Greinke is worth. I think KC is going to want much more evidence than they've already seen that he's ready to be consistently effective before they pull out the checkbook... and as a result I think they're basically locked into a "wait and see" approach where they wouldn't extend Greinke until after this season at the earliest.
"Omar Vizquel wants to play in '09, if he has a good offensive year in '08." So he'll be retiring, then? When you're batting eighth for the 2008 San Francisco Giants you know you're in serious trouble.

If Greinke keeps this up all year... the Royals might want to consider locking him up cheaply.

For the Royals to pay Greinke the standard rate for his last two arb seasons really isn't much of a risk, in my mind.

Here's a question I won't be posting in the chat:
"True or false: The answer to this question is false."

JP's done tinkering? Why not? Mench and Wilkerson should get the job done! Sigh... You know what JP, just give Barry B. 300 abs from the DH spot and see what that awsome pitching staff can do with a few runs...

It's his Free Agent years I'm talking about. That's if he's willing to be signed long term.

In most cases the teams have gotten options for one or two FA years.

For the White Sox, we will call this the curse of Joe Borchard. ... When it comes to the draft, the White Sox make sounds like a bird. Cheap, Cheap, Cheap ...

I think its pretty important that KC show Greinke some love this offseason, if not sooner. Over the last few years they have shown they are willing to overpay and take chances to get solid players. If they play hardball with their own guys, especially ones that are rapidly putting together better resumes than the FAs they bring in, that sends are pretty horrible signal to the young players and to the taxpayers.

J.P. Ricciardi should say he is done bottom fishing for offense. Obtaining Brad Whiffkerson and Kevin Mench hardly qualifies as tinkering. It is cruel and USUAL punishment for that fine Blue Jays pitching staff to have to throw a shutout in order to get a win.

Or throw a shutout and NOT get a win. "Cruel and USUAL" is dead-on for JP.
