Odds and Ends: Botts, Red Sox, McLouth

Roundup of links!

  • According to Jamey Newberg, Jason Botts has cleared waivers.  He probably won't get another chance with the Rangers though.
  • Gordon Edes notes that the Red Sox have five picks in the first three rounds of the June draft.  Even though they don't start until the 30th pick, the Sox have had much success in recent years.
  • No extension talks have begun with Nate McLouth, but Dejan Kovacevic does expect it to happen.
  • I updated the fantasy baseball closers depth chart over at RotoAuthority.
  • SI.com's Jon Heyman says Freddy Garcia is "progressing nicely" in rehab and will throw off a mound about a week from now.
  • Marc Topkin wonders if the Rays should consider Jason Michaels (among others) if they aren't satisfied with their current right field options.

Tim, I keep seeing that you think Brian Wilson's job is in jeapordy. As a Giants fan who is constantly checking the news and blogs, there's nothing that would even suggest it's a possibility. I would imagine he would have to blow 4-5 saves in a row. His walks have been high, but he's clearly getting the job done with some pretty good stuff.

Perhaps TB should take a looksee at Milton Bradley for RF: hits for average and power, takes walks and gets on base, thriving as TEX's cleanup guy, decent defensively in RF when healthy, has no future in TEX with Murphy, Hamilton, Boggs, and possibly Mayberry constituting the OF corps next season etc.

Not sure it really makes sense for the Rays to take on a guy like Bradley. The Rays got rid of Delmon Young and Elijah Dukes because of character issues, so I doubt they were take on the burden of Bradley, especially if it meant dealing away good young players. His bat would help this team a lot, but I just don't see the Rays being interested. I still think that Juan Rivera or Matt Murton makes the most sense for them.

I think that Botts is done. Kaput. Because any team that would have wanted him would have claimed him while he was on waivers.

Does Freddy come with his own MASH unit?
