Rumorland Ambassador Ken Rosenthal has posted yet another Full Count video. Let's get sifting:
- Rosenthal thinks Orlando Hudson could be shown the money this offseason if he opts to explore free agency. Hudson most likely won't be offered market value by the Dbacks. Rosenthal posits the Orioles, Cards, Dodgers, and Mariners as potential buyers.
- 4 unnamed teams are interested in Derrick Turnbow, who is making $3.2MM this year. According to KR, the Brewers would need to throw money in a deal or get a comparable salary in return - as the saying goes, you trade contracts, not players. Turnbow needs a fresh start and middle relief is always in demand; however, a lot of teams have better internal options and could see Turnbow as a project for better or worse.
- Gerald Laird update: Reds, Yankees, and Brewers all passed. But Rosenthal still expects Laird to end up somewhere and notes that whoever gets him has him through 2010.
- The Dodgers are planning on "integrating" Clayton Kershaw soon to throw a limit of 150 IP; however this doesn't (yet) make Esteban Loaiza expendable as they would alternate the two in the rotation, Kershaw starting twice, and then Loaiza twice, and so on. I say "(yet)" because Rosenthal doesn't mention that the rotation will get crowded if/when Jason Schmidt returns in early June. I would expect they'll explore options, but be content using Loaiza out of the bullpen. By the way, Kershaw has a 1.40 ERA with 31 K in 25.2 IP for Double-A Jacksonville.

I know it's early, but...
Returning to last year's "Rich Hill vs. Ryan Theriot" debate. I see Rich Hill and all of his wonderful peripherals were sent down to AAA-Iowa yesterday. And Theriot is currently hitting well above .300 with an OBP almost at .400. Round 1 to Deke.

Javier Lopez for Turnbow. This proposal isnt based off of any logic but rather my hatred of Javier Lopez.

Didn't Javier Lopez announce his retirement? I know the Brewers have at least 3 players on their current roster that were "retired" at one point in their careers but Javier Lopez is a stretch to say the least.

Oops, I guess there's more than one Javier Lopez. If you're referring to the Javier Lopez who is in the Red Sox org, then it's a possibility.

Yes, Round 1 goes to Deke. But I wouldn't be shocked if many, many rounds went to the other way. We are only 30 games into the season, and while I'm pleasantly surprised to see Theriot playing so well, I still think Hill will bounce back. The guy has too much talent and pitched too well last year to end up completely losing it. Theriot should round out to a solid .280/.360ish line (which is exactly what the Cubbies needed), and I still think Hill ends up in the rotation in a couple weeks unless Marquis, Lieber and Dempster all somehow pitch great.

javier lopez is a lefty specialist that plays for the sox still, javy lopez was a cather that played most of his years in baltimore, and played half of 06 in boston, javy is the retired one, javier is still active
no javier for turnbow, but maybe pauley or hansack for turnbow since his value has very much decreased now, they shouldve traded a year and a half ago to get full value for him, no they cant.

Scribble, As a Cub fan myself, I hope Hill DOES rebound. For as well as Dempster has done, I worry. And Marquis is always a meltdown waiting to happen. The Cubs WILL need Rich Hill to make a significant contribution at some point if they hope to get deep into the playoffs. Back to Theriot...I've read a few articles talking about how the Cubs have become this "OBP Machine" ever since Fuku joined the club. In one artcile, Theriot explained that in 2007, since no one else in the Cubs lineup was looking to walk or take pitches, that he took it upon himself to work counts deeper and often times lay off great pitches to hit. It amazes me that major league hitters would need a fellow player to model that behavior for them! I mean, come on... I'm sure at some point Lou or SOME coach told them to be more selective and to take more pitches. But they never did. And now Fuku comes along and now they're all the sudden being more selective and walking?! It's just strange. But I'll take it. And you're right, I don't expect Theriot to end up at his current .325/.400 clip. But I'd take .280/.360 and some solid defense, hustle and stolen bases to go along with it. Back to Rich Hill...his control seems to be WAY off. 18 walks compared to 17 K's thus far. Although he did walk a fair number of hitters last year. But if there's one thing Lou can't stand, it's walks. And will Kerry Wood still be the closer if he blows another save? He always liked to walk a few hitters as well. I think if Kerry is sporadic in May, we could see the beginning of the Carlos Marmol era as closer.

On the Kershaw thing. Interestingly, Loaiza has shown flashes of his former form at time this season, mixed with some terrible pitching. I do agree that he seems more suited to a job out of the 'pen at this point.
I think the bigger bump in the road for Kershaw is Schmidt, as he has a lot of contract left and the Dodgers have much more of a vested interest in his recovery and return to the rotation than they do with Loaiza. All the reports say that Schmidt is progressing really well and that he is almost ready to rejoin the team. If he pitches like the Jason Schmidt of old, that will probably keep Kershaw in the 'pen or the minors for the rest of the year.
