What's Next For The Royals?

MLB.com's Dick Kaegel notes that the Royals have closer Joakim Soria and outfielder David DeJesus under contract multiple years into the future.  Is anything cooking with other young Royals?

  • The Royals didn't seek Soria out to sign him.  Instead, he was "very aggressive" and approached the team, according to Dayton Moore.  And Allard Baird signed DeJesus.
  • Kaegel spoke to Alex Gordon and Brian Bannister, and learned that nothing is in the works.  Bannister wondered whether his age (27) could be a factor.
  • Kaegel didn't talk to Zack Greinke or John Buck, but Bob Dutton did a week ago.  Neither has been approached to talk extension.  Greinke said he didn't know what he was worth, while Buck admitted he'd welcome talks.  No word on Billy Butler or Mark Teahen.
  • Craig Brown of Royals Authority offers his predictions on contenders for long-term deals.

I'd resign Gordon, Greinke and Bannister but let the rest go. None of the others have really showed any real promise.

Butler needs to be signed as well. He hasn't show the power yet this year, but he is only 22 and I've heard some front office people say he's a top five pure hitter in the making.

As much as I love him, I think ya gotta wait on Bannister to see what you really have. He was great last year, and started the year hot ~ but… Well, as good as has been pitching, he is defying his ability a bit and that means I probably wait till its needed before locking him in longterm…

"and Bannister"

Really?

I'd sign as many guys as I can... I have to wonder if they will go for Dunn, Bay or another game changer with the bat. It would seem to be a good fit/time to go for someone like that and lock them up.

What's happening dark... it's been awhile...

…Isnt that what Jose Guillen is for the next 3 years as he collects his 36M?

…Hey buddy, yeah long time no speak… Seems we haven’t found the same thread for a while now…

Well, it remains to be seen if the Royals are contenders, but so far they've gotten zero offensive production from their left fielders, 1st basemen and DH.

How bout them White Sox :) You know how I said Quentin would get a .900 OPS? **** that. Crede's been good offensively, sucks on defense. Weird.

Yeah, they are doing really well so far ~ and it looks like the rest of the ALC is doing their best to give them a little push and root them on. Ahhh, gotta love those KittyKats…

...hehehe, happened to leave this site and see this as one of the top stories at my fantasy site...

"Royals outfielder Jose Guillen was named American League Player of the Week for the period ending May 18, this according to the Sports Network. "

Guillen's been hot, but he's not going to make up for the shortcomings of Teahen, Butler and... Gload... but Guillen is there right fielder most of the time anyway.
