« Francisco Liriano Frustrated | Main | Cubs Rumors: Fuentes, Greene »
2:37pm: Turns out the Padres will get a Single A pitcher for Clark: Evan Scribner.
1:41pm: ESPN's Buster Olney says it's a done deal.
12:04pm: According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the D'Backs "appear to be closing in" on a trade for first baseman/pinch-hitter Tony Clark. It would be for a Double A pitching prospect, and could get done today. Piecoro says Clark will apparently waive the $500K bonus he was to receive upon a trade.
Clark almost re-signed with Arizona last winter. He was known as a clubhouse leader in his previous stint with the D'Backs.

According to Buster Olney at ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3493542), the Dbacks got Clark today and he did waive the bonus.

Do you people think this will get the D-Backs into the playoffs?
Posted by: cubs land | July 17, 2008 at 03:30 PM
They're already on pace to get to the playoffs, moron.

I see what you mean though. They'll probably be eliminated first-round like the Cubs of 2007.

Actually they're just a game up on the Dodgers, who have been killed by injuries. They're quite far from on a good pace to make the playoffs when their play has steadily declined since their hot start.

Not if they keep playing the way they have.

Granted the D-backs have been playing horrible as of late, but with the fact that they're going to be going back up against the NL West, their prospects look very good. The only team in the division that matches even close to them with pitching is the Dodgers, but I like the prospect of the D-backs young hitters coming around a lot better than the Dodgers, especially if they keep insisting on running Andruw Jones, Garciaparra and Berrora out there. And I really do love how cocky many Cubs fans seem to get when their team is in 1st place, but they gotta watch out since the Brew crew has CC now. Anyways we all know the Cubs will choke in October.

Why isn't anybody talking about the D'Backs giving up an awesome prospect for TONY CLARK! Scribner is flat out tough to hit. Great K total and only 23 BB's to 123 K's. How you would give up anything for a one dimensional hitter with an OPS+ of 91 is beyond me. If I was the Cubs GM, I would have offered Daryle Ward for Scribner. Ward is much better than Clark
