TUESDAY: MLB.com's Jim Molony suggests Lamb could be a fit for the Phillies, Cubs, Mets, or Brewers.
MONDAY: According to Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, third baseman Mike Lamb was designated for assignment today to make room for Eddie Guardado. Manager Ron Gardenhire questioned Lamb's energy level.
Lamb is owed another $690K this year plus $3MM in '09 and a $100K buyout for '10. Several moves and near-moves made by the Twins in recent months have shown a willingness to spend some dough midseason.
Lamb's move back to the AL didn't work out; he hit just .233/.276/.322 in 261 plate appearances. Maybe he can help out in a utility role for a team like the Phillies.

Why would the cubs be a place for him? When Ramirez needs a day off, they put DeRosa at 3rd and put Mike F. at 2nd. Doesnt make sence....does anybody see why the cubs would want him?

cubs land...thinking the same thing. Cubs have Fontenot and Ward off the bench, both of which are cheaper versions of Mike Lamb, though Lamb is a bit more versatile.
No...I don't see it happening. We've got Micah Hoffpauir in the minors who I'd much rather see off the bench than Lamb...

the mets are not a fit.

Mets.....How so?

The guy is a left handed hitting, versatile veteran with some pop. Why would any contender not want him as an option off the bench?

Lamb was batting 1/32/.233 in 81 games. Are you trying to pull the wool over our eyes??? Lets slaughter this idea, it is baaaaaa d.

Kotsay pulled out of the lineup right before the game... where's he heading?

That means nothing. JC Romero was coming off 50 innings of 6+ era ball, followed up by 20 innings of pitching to a whip of nearly 2 with the Red Sox, but without him there is no chance of the Phillies making the playoffs last year. Guys having crappy seasons with crappy teams are good canidates to turn things around later in the year playing with a contender, especially in a bench roll.
Lamb posted OPS+ of 113 and 112 in 06 and 07, and he plays all over the diamond. He absolutely can help any team listed here.

Yahoo is reporting Kotsay to the Red Sox.

You are right Minnesota is a crappy team 74-57 1 1/2 out of first and 2 out of wild card. BTW who would Lamb replace on the Cubs????
Posted by: ryno23 | August 26, 2008 at 10:02 PM
If Cubs were to get any player off the bench I would sure hope it would be Aubrey Huff.

You're right about the Twins not being crappy. That was me being lazy and forgetting he was not on Houston. But to say that its a stupid idea and not worth a second thought is just silly of you. Lamb could definitely be useful for any contender.

what positions does he play? I could see him as a bench player for the cub, but i have no idea if he can play short. Cedeno would be the guy...but if lamb can't play short...i don't really think the cubs have a use for him. They have enough corner infield help (not to mention hoffpauir in the minors). i was thinking that lamb played 2b, 3b, and first.

Lamb is a corner infield/corner outfield player.
Once again, I'd much rather promote Micah Hoffpauir from AAA than acquire Lamb. Even though Micah unexperienced, especially down the stretch, I'd still rather have him in that role than Lamb, as I think Micah has all-around better offensive talent nad I like the idea of trial by fire. I bet Hoffpauir is the first person promoted when the September callups start.
Nope, there isn't any room for Lamb on the team. Doesn't a player have to be on the roster before the September callups to be playoff eligible, as well?
Posted by: Dave | August 27, 2008 at 11:35 AM
he has to be on the 40 man, or on the dl if i am not mistaken. that's how francisco rodriguez got on the angels roster the year they won the WS. he got called up in september but he was on the 40. But yea, any trades after the fact cannot be on the playoff roster.
