« Odds and Ends: Kendall, Laird, Giles, Manny | Main | Richie Sexson Released »
According to Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres are discussing a multiyear contract extension for setup man Heath Bell. Bell hopes for a three-year deal.
Krasovic says the Padres control Bell's rights for four more seasons, though by my count it's three. He's arbitration-eligible for the first time after this season. Manny Corpas will receive $12.25MM for his three arb seasons, though the third is a club option.

yea we only have his rights for 3. he condradicts himself in the article by saying next yr he is arb eligible but then says we have 4 more yrs of control. i dunno if heath has the stuff of a closer tho. after all those IP last yr he has lost a little control, not too much tho.

As bad as the padres are playing they have a couple of real good relievers and bell is a cloer in waiting. Hoffman for one more year then let bell take over makes sense with Adams setting up. A three year for 10 million seems right.

Bell is an ideal candidate to flip to a contender next year. I think this year is much more indicative of what you can expect (as opposed to last year).
