I hope that the A's and Brewers can work something out in the off season. There is no way that the Brewers are going to be able to keep Sabathia and Sheets next year, so maybe Oakland can deal some of the excess pitching that they seem to have.
The A's have too much pitching at almost every level of the organization, and that is exactly what the Brewers are going to be looking for if they deal Fielder.
It would also be good for Oakland to get a marquee player to help the team and fans realize that the A's are going to be competitive in the near future.
Maybe some sort of package including pitchers Ducshcherer/Smith/Eveland/Braden/Street/Embree would get it done.

I don't see the yanks trading Cano, it'd be selling low. Despite the fact his numbers this year can be traced back to a rotten start, the fact remains his OPS has dropped 200 points over the last 2 years. He's worth more to the yanks rebuilding his potential.

Why would the Rangers want Hudson they have Ian Kinsler

You know, I keep hearing "So and so will trade **insert position player** for pitching this year." What I haven't heard is who's actually shopping their pitching? Is there any really names out there that's worth the quality of a Prince Fielder or a Ryan Howard?
Matt Cain's mantra might as well be 'not available.' The only pitching that I can think of who available doesn't really measure up to the above mentioned. Jonathan Sanchez? Duke? Jake Peavy and Roy Halladay would definitely be worth them, but come on; do you really see those two changing teams?

Im sure Twins, Rays and Marlins will be willing to trade SP. Guys like Blackburn, Baker, Perkins, Sonnanstine, Jackson, Olsen could be available

The A's have enough pitching without Duke. I can easily see him get traded especially if it brings someone like Fielder in return.
Duke is turning 31 this year and while that isn't that old, I don't see Duke in Oakland's long term plans.
The A's also have a low payroll right now so he might be able to be signed long term.

There are always players of all kinds available, it doesn't all become public. And, sometimes the pitcher is MLB-ready but has little experience, like Edinson Volquez. I could see a guy like Homer Bailey moved this winter, for example.

How about Prince Fielder and Rickie Weeks to the Yankees for Phil Hughes and Robinson Cano??
Posted by: Lidocaine | September 12, 2008 at 06:06 PM
Think it far more likely the Yankees sign Teixeira, and hold on to Cano and Hughes. Teixeira >> Fielder, Cano >> Weeks, Hughes >> ???.
If there's a Hughes/Cano package offered (and I think they'd be more open than at any other time), it would have to be for a #1 starter. Peavy?

I am a Yankee fan, and I even laugh at that proposal

I agree...which is why my argument could be justified. The Reds give a package centered around Homer Bailey. Won't be an immediate impact pitcher, but probably the highest ceiling that they can get

viktor06, that's a very good point you brought up. I think we might see the Twins include one of those names in a deal for someone like Garret Atkins this offseason. If not, I still completely agree with you. All those names you brought up have good trade value and could be moved by their teams in order to fill other gaps.
To respond to green and gold's comment, I understand what you are saying with the A's pitching depth, but remember that a team can never have too many pitchers. I'm not saying the A's won't be looking to move some of the guys but I'm sure they won't complain about having too many pitching options. That's a nice problem to have.

Could the Royals and Rays make a deal in the offseason? David DeJesus to Tampa Bay for a pitcher? Or something along those lines?
Posted by: ilulic | September 13, 2008 at 10:39 PM
ilulic- I could see a possible DeJesus deal.
A team can never have too many pitchers, but the A's need offense, and sometimes getting rid of 1-2 pitchers for offense might not be a bad idea(as long as Anderson and Cahill stay put). Although, Howard + Cust in the same lineup would catapult the A's to the league lead in strikeouts.
