« Manny Looking For Five Years, $85 Million? | Main | Braves May Consider Peavy »
According to MLB.com's Corey Brock, catcher Josh Bard and pitcher Shawn Estes have elected free agency and cleared waivers. Both players were expected to join the free agent class, though perhaps not this early.
Bard is interesting - he will be 31 in March, and was injured for much of '08. In '07 he hit pretty well away from PETCO.
Additionally, pitcher Dirk Hayhurst was claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays. Hayhurst's claim to fame is writing a "non-prospect diary" for Baseball America.

Shawn Estes is a free agent? WOW! Just sit back and wait for him to set the market CC, you aren't going anyhere until Estes gets signed.

Bard is actually a decent catcher...calls a good game but has no arm...when healthy is a solid hitter...not gonna blow your sox off but a quality guy to have on your bench...he'll get picked up by a team who has a young catcher who needs a mentor...hmmmm...sounds a lot like the Padres...but I guess he's too expensive for them now...how sad is your team when Josh Bard is too expensive...

Josh Bard was a good hitter while healthy, but teams turned a single into a triple off of him. As for Estes, I hope the Pads resign him.
