what would it take to land an andrew miller or josh johnson? i'd rather the rangers up the ante and land a higher quality starter. olsen has talent, but i don't think he's a great fit for the team (and stadium).
thoughts?

Does Fla want to compete next year, or do they plan on toiling away in mediocrity again next year.
I agree, they should shop miller and Johnson, plus nolasco and sanchez. that's too much talent to waste away in florida

Yep the Ranger's need to up the ante, especially if they want their so called "4th" catcher. Unfortunately Daniels doesn't know how to do that, he will just give up.

There is no chance in hell that the Marlins shop Johnson or Nolasco. Miller would take a lot considering that he was part of the Cabrera deal. Olsen is the only pitcher the Marlins are willing to give up because he is expendable. Keep dreaming about the other guys.

I am still of the mind that the Fish should resign Gonzo, if he is willing to accept a deal similar to that of this year.

This situation is maddening, as Florida won't take Laird, and if they want Salty, they're going to have to give up a lot more than Olsen, and they're not going to to do that, either. I think Texas will just go elsewhere with their catchers.
Baseball needs to change, IMHO. When teams add or subtract players solely due to the amount of money they are being paid, and gladly dump players that would help them win because they would hurt the team's bottom line, there's a pretty serious problem that needs to be addressed by some kind of policy change.

I think a Miller for Salty deal makes a lot of sense for each team, and there are a lot of parallels between those two guys, including their value when traded, their long term potential, and their underwhelming '08 campaigns.

I'm dreaming about Pavano signing with the fish and post another 18W, and gets trades and gets wasted... deja vu.

I respectfully disagree that Olsen to the Rangers for Max would be a "win" for this club. Olsen would give up about 430 homers in the BPIA, and he has a history of BB issues (not what the Rangers need).
And there's that pesky loss of velocity problem haunting the guy, too.
Max, on the other hand, is young & cheap and can serve as a pretty good DH until Smoak is called up, when Davis would be moved there. And Max's probably a better catcher than Salty (I know, I know... that's not saying much).
So I think that's a really terrible trade for Texas.

Ramirez is going to be hardpressed to stay at catcher, so this rumor is an odd one. The guy can hit but the Marlins already have 1B options already down on the farm.

I think with another year of development in AAA Max could very possibly stay at catcher. Will he ever be a gold glover? Probably not. But he is better than most give him credit for.
And there is no way the Rangers will trade Ramirez, a right handed bat they need in their lineup, for someone like Olsen. I am sure the Rangers wouldn't mind Olsen, but only for a guy like Laird.
