« D'Backs Interested In Loretta | Main | A's Acquire Matt Holliday »
According to MLB.com's Jason Beck, the Tigers have indicated early interest in free agent reliever Brandon Lyon.
Lyon, 29, posted a 4.70 ERA in 59.1 innings this year. His strong command and high rate of hits dropping in indicates that he deserved a lower ERA for his efforts. Lyon earned $3.125MM in '08. Will he sign for the one-year term the Tigers crave?

So how are the Tigers going to add K-Rod, Cruz, Ohman, Lowe, Furcal, and Varitek after Dombrowski has already said there won't be a significant bump in Payroll?
Ah details, details.

-SS Michael Hollimon is injured, out until about June or more I believe.
-I would be fine with Ramon Santiago being our starting SS, though it seems Dombrowski and Leyland believe that his body could not handle playing every time for an entire season, but either way we need a back up SS, unless Rayburn can play that position.
-I think the acquisition of SS Jack Wilson would be a good move, but it depends on what the Pirates want in return.
-Starting pitching is less of a concern than I think it is made out to be. The rotation underachieved, but they are not that bad, though the Tigers must sign Freddy Garcia.
-Catcher is up in the air, with Dusty Ryan occupying one of the two slots. If Vance Wilson could somehow regain his health, he would be be an ideal fit to split time with Ryan.
-The bullpen is the main priority, and this is a tough situation. My one idea is making a deal for either Huston Street, JJ Putz, and if that doesn't work out, than Kevin Gregg. I think the deal should be built around 1b/3b Jeff Larish, who is really doing well in the Arizona Fall League, with OF's Marcus Thames and Brent Clevlen also as trade bait.

If Detroit signs Lyon, I sincerely hope it is to be a middle reliever. The bigger ballpark will help him, but he has moved around to so many teams for a reason. I'm not overly impressed with him, and if Seattle is willing to part with Putz then I am all for giving up one of the young OF's in the farm system. That's the only position the Tigers have any real depth.

oh god, this guy is just a younger version of todd jones. i live in arizona, and i watched the d-backs a bit this season and watched Lyon blow game after game.
the tigers need to be looking at another pitcher that pitched in arizona this year...a man by the name of Juan Cruz.
please no brandon lyon.
