« More Odds And Ends: Padres, Francoeur, Manny, Phillies | Main | Rockies Rumors: Holliday, Taveras, Atkins »
The Yankees announced today that they have declined Damaso Marte's '09 option. Yesterday we learned that the Yankees were seeking to sign Marte to an extension. Marte is a Type A free agent, so figure on at least an offer of arbitration.
The option was for $6MM and was bought out for $250K.

when healthy, Yankees bullpen is one of the best in the league. If they resign Marte it will keep it strong and young. I still believe Phil Coke should be in the starting rotation.

Coke great in bullpen and Marte made Ortiz look silly a must sign. Yanks would have best lefty relief in majors and who knows what Mitre might give

Bst bullpen I dont think so. Offer him arb and hope he declines. This gives room to bring up Melacon.
