but why would anyone value Robi highly? He had a bad 08: every month equally bad
I have a feeling fans that dislike the Yankee org. will even moreso after this Hot Stove Season

Empty your bank Hank.

Only April was Robinson Canos bad month. If you take away his April BA, then he has a .297 batting average for the year. Only April was bad.
Posted by: YankeeFan4life | November 05, 2008 at 12:27 PM
Robbie Cano's OPS+ by Month:
March/April: 22
May: 107
June: 90
July: 121
August: 116
Sept: 86
"every month equally bad" is just wrong.

ArodMVP217 obviously didn't watch the Yankees this season. Cano had one bad month, then he kicked ass or did at least decent every other month. Nice try though.

Unless CC's ambivalence toward NY is stronger than widely believed, I think he'll sign with the Yankees within 2 weeks for something insane.
And here I was thinking that the collapsing financial industry that functions as the lifeblood of the NY economy would make the team marginally cost-conscious. Guess the windfall of plugging revenue sharing money into a new source of revenue outweighs those tertiary concerns.

What you have to understand is us Yankee fans can't afford gas, food, rent, and healthcare but we're still buying season tickets.

Pre-all star game, Cano was .246/.285/.358. That includes the combined stats from April, May and June (and part of July).
You're right that April was horrible, but you can't take that month away; that's not how it works.
Posted by: rememberthecoop | November 05, 2008 at 12:43 PM
Coop, you are right, that you can't take months away, but you can't also say that every month was bad, because that is simply not true. Pre-allstar break was very poor but he put up decent/good numbers afterwards, which resulted in a mediocre season.
It's true that if you take away any players worst month, they probably come out with solid numbers. But you can't just say he was horrible for every months because his ending numbers were mediocre.
Posted by: Chris | November 05, 2008 at 12:47 PM
its much different when someone sucks equally bad throughout the season, to someone whos horrendous for 1 month and decent the other 5.

So what does it take to get Salty or Laird???
Posted by: maximumpotential | November 05, 2008 at 12:53 PM
WOW! Lets get C.C.,Lowe,Ramirez,and Texiera...Then we'll buy the Pittsburgh Pirates and use them as our AAA team! I love this team!!

Any player can have a down season. So what's up with the Cano hating. I guess if Pedroia sucks next year, after maybe even winning MVP this year, makes him a bad player?

No way! Pedroia's WAY too gritty to ever have a down season! His passion for the game is unmatched by anyone!
For Diamond Cutters, I'm Peter Gammons.

I'm just saying in the event that this would happend, would you consider him bad.
Posted by: DominicanYanks | November 05, 2008 at 01:10 PM
I don't consider Cano a bad player. I still think of him as an All-Star 2B. I was just pointing out the Yankee-hating double standard.
Posted by: maximumpotential | November 05, 2008 at 01:31 PM
"Empty your bank Hank."
How long ago was it that the Yankees were universally behind this Cashman-engineered youth movement?
Well it didn't take long for that to go out the window. 350+ million spent last off season and another 200-300 could easily be spent this year.
Gotta win huh?

Do any of you really think CC will turn down an offer of 6/150 or something in that range???
Posted by: ncyankeefan | November 05, 2008 at 02:34 PM
I hope they get rid of Kennedy. hope they package him to a deal for either Frenchy or Salty.
Posted by: yankfan1 | November 05, 2008 at 03:14 PM
#1 ... MOOSE - COME BACK!!!
#2 ... there is now an abundance of very good offensive second basemen in the majors. Cano must be mentioned with the Utleys, Hudsons, Kinslers, Pedroias, DeRosas, K. Johnsons and (perhaps) Ugglas. That puts him in the top 20% of his contemporaries.
... even the completely jacked up Elias rankings agree.
You cannot trade someone in the top 20% of his class when you have no replacement and you're not getting a franchise player in return.

No, I dont think so. He doesnt have any problems for playing in New York, I dont know where every body is getting this. Hes already famous and maximised whether he goes to New York or not so that shouldnt be a problem.

"350+ million spent last off season and another 200-300 could easily be spent this year."
If A-Rod cost 400+, it would still have been worth it ... merchandising with his number, and his name (which is sacrilege on the back of a Yankees jersey), on it pays for the huge contract. Not to mention the ad revenue when he gets near 563, 600, 660, 700, 714, 755, etc!
Posted by: rossdfarian | November 05, 2008 at 03:40 PM
that is great news i don't want him!
Posted by: mynameborat | November 05, 2008 at 03:52 PM
RED SUX DYNASTY - Please look up the meaning of the word "dynasty"....because last time I checked, being the Yankees personal prison be-hotch, then finally winning a whole two WS in 90 YEARS...does NOT a dynasty make! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: jjyankeesfan2 | November 05, 2008 at 04:21 PM
RSD, you continue to prove your stupidity - let me see that link. Some of the greatest Yankees are Bernie Williams, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada - Of course though, NY has some serious race issues. They hate those guys.
2003 was a fun season of choking, yes?

"ArodMVP217 obviously didn't watch the Yankees this season. Cano had one bad month, then he kicked ass or did at least decent every other month. Nice try though."
or was just being sarcastic...

why are we even thinking about Manny, i hate him, and we dont need ne more outfeilders, we have Nady, Matsui, Damon, Gardner, and we will probably re-sign Abreu. do we really need another cry baby on r team?
Posted by: IronDevil | November 05, 2008 at 11:19 PM
and i forgot melky but he will probably be traded...
Posted by: IronDevil | November 05, 2008 at 11:21 PM
To listen to Nomar tell it, Manny is actually a very thoughtful and considerate teammate.
I don't want him on the Yankees because it goes against everything we're trying to do and exactly why the '08 season was sacrificed.
Other thoughts:
Melky should have been traded 11 months ago but now we're stuck with him. Gardner should be platooned for his first full year ... like they did in every decade through the early 90's with young talent. Abreu should find another team. And, Nady / Damon / Matsui should all be allowed to try out for 1st base just like any other guy invited to spring training. (Imagine a 1st baseman / leadoff hitter ... .400+ on-base, 20 hrs, 75 rbis, 30 sb)

B3NG4L, bro are you serious?
2004 defines the term "choke"
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | November 06, 2008 at 01:27 AM
salty is a very bad over hyped cather he has no throwing abilty im a cather in high school and have had tore rotar cuff and he looks like his muscle reflex's r off firing over at the wrong time he stuggles gettin the ball back to the pitcher iv seen him over throw the pitcher in warm up 5 or 6 time this last season and i dont think he caught but 1 to 2 times per week
Posted by: antman5 | November 06, 2008 at 05:10 AM
I would not be surprised at all to find out later this off season that the Yankees pushed very hard to get Laird/Salty/Teagarden from the rangers. The Yankees have to be worried still about Posada's arm and just as worried about Molina as a backup. The catching situation they have is not good, just like it is in Boston with Molina in the same category as Cash (all glove and arm with no bat) and the starting catcher with Boston, just being a FA that Boston can let walk if they choose to save money being the only saving grace for salary purposes to go out and find a younger catcher and then bring back 'Tek if he will come back on a more sane contract.
Both these teams clearly need to do something behind the plate and soon and it may be interesting to watch them butt heads this off season in that pursuit.
