Manny Ramirez Rumors: Thursday

Hoping the Yankees sign Manny RamirezKen Davidoff of Newsday gives it about a 20% chance.  As for Manny signing with the Mets, Davidoff gives it no chance.

Davidoff's colleague Kat O'Brien paints a similar picture, suggesting that the Yankees' baseball operations people "have not even discussed Ramirez at any length."  O'Brien says the Yanks are more interested in Mark Teixeira, who is also a long shot. Tex is expected to sign before Manny.

Did the Mike Cameron talks fizzle to allow for a Yankees pursuit of Manny?  Mark Feinsand's source says there's no connection.  Still, Feinsand believes Hank Steinbrenner is pushing for Ramirez.

I'm still hoping Hank wins out on this one and they sign Manny, i don't think they're willing to drop $200 mil for Tex, and a 3/4 of A-rod and Manny sounds like it could do some damage, and hopefully they'll move Matsui who i think is washed up, and rather have Damon because he's a better clubhouse guy for the team.

let's move matsui cause he's washed up... any takers?

yankee fans...

Yankees fans thinking they'd be able to 'move' Matsui are just as bad as Sox fans thinking the 29 other teams would fall over themselves to acquire Lowell.

Neither are easily tradeable, especially Lowell who is the same age as Matsui, but has $11 million more on his contract.

As a Mets fan, I really want Manny. I know we're not going to get him, but I'm going to continue to whine about it. Liabilty shmiability! Face it, he sucks at not making it to the playoffs! Period. Wait! I take that back. Exclamation Point!

Funny Andrew, very funny. Lowell produces, to the tune of 17 HR 73 RBI and .274 Avg in a year he was injured twice, yet Igawa has yet to do CRAP since costing the Yankees what was it? 50 million counting posting fees? He is 2-4 with a career 6.66 ERA and they expect someone to help offset the remaining 12 million salary?? HAHAHA

My bad Andrew, Had Igawa on the brain..

I don't think that trading Matsui is a long shot. A team that trades for him will not only get his numbers but the revenue that comes along with the Japanese market. 13 million is not a lot for only one year when you will probably make that back in merchandise. He is an injury risk and can't play the field very well, but if a team like the Mariners (A team that doesn't expect to win) jumps in and grabs him for a low price while some of his contract is getting paid, it would seem to me like a steal in terms of dollar figures.

i hope the yankees get manny because he tries so hard to play his best

Not in the outfield

It would be no loss to the outfield to add Manny. Its weak already .. but i think the best situation would be to put Gardner in center [weaker bat / RIDICULOUS range] & share LF/DH between Damon & Manny. Gardner's running ability should make up some defensive weakness and his arm cant be any worse than Damon out there.
Matsui may have negative trade value .. but its not like they'd be trying to pick up anyone in the trade so who cares. Pay 1/2 his salary & we end up paying 30-35 for Manny for the first year & possibly another 25 for a following year. It sounds like crazy numbers .. but thats what you get in return - CRAZY NUMBERS. Support for Arod & maybe next year we can pick up Jason Bay & move Manny to full DH

Manny will end up in LA unless the Yankees offer him 4 or more years and I don't think they will.

Manny will end up back in LA unless the Yankees want to offer him 4 or more years.

Mike Lowell hit decently last season and is a great defensive third baseman.

If the Sox would eat a couple million, they could easily find a suitor.

What about Giambi... He defended pretty well and hit 30+ homers i like him a lot more than swisher....we all KNOW he wants to play there i really think he we should get him back especialy if we dont get manny and if we do it could set up a 3-4-5 spot of a-rod manny giambi

GIAMBI - SERIOUSLY!?!?

Did you not watch last season? He might of been OK at first picking out balls & shT .. but his range off the bag for ground balls is crap. The bigger deal was at the plate. Normally i'd wait till the bottom of order inning to get up & and do something during the game .. instead it was during the 4,5,6 spot. It was ridiculous. Giambi was good for one month during the season. He batted under 250 & had 110+ strikeouts and less than half of his HR's where clutch.

I seen Molina hit more important HR's last season than Jason

I will admit that Giambi is lacking in many aspects, but he provides good left handed power and his obp is usually around .400 even with a .250 batting average. He does strike out a lot but he also uses up a lot of the oppossitions pitches. I would much prefer alternatives to Giambi but it would not be the end of the world if the yankees bring him back. Defense is always important, but first base is probably the least important of all the positions.

Bronxbombas4life..ur right in a way but if you think about it..would u rather have a guy who hits 30+ homers who plays allright defense(he is continuing to get better)and has a good obp with a high average pitches per at bat or a guy who hits no more than 15 homers, is normally an outfielder, worse average, will bat lower in the order blahblahblah...also giambi had a bad season last year...ussualy a used to be good player will NOT go 2 bad seasons in a row

Nick Swisher has averaged 20+ HRs over the past 4 years. Plus the OBP for Swisher in his 4 year career is almost identical to that of Giambi's in his first 4 :

http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=430897

He's in the beginning of his career - Giambi is in the end of his career. Giambi is NOT going to get better. His best years was back between 98 to 03 when he was on the roids mainly with the A's. Yes he's patient .. but so is Swisher.

Bottom line .. Dont go after TEX or resign Giambi over MANNY!!! 1st base may need some flexibility if Posada isn't the same behind the plate. Swisher is cheaper than Tex & this gives the $$ to go after a shorter contract - that of MANNY!!

Giambi's best years cant compare to Manny's worst with the bat.

yea ur probally right but but i would want tex over manny because the the sox dont get him and tex will be btter hitting wise in 2-3 years also if we dont get TEX...do u think we can get Dunn AND manny?

I do hope LA trades Pierre or Jones if we get manny, cause I don't feel like watching Ethier or Kemp share time with Jones or Pierres worthless at bats.

I think if Manny is resigned Jones is left out looking in..
Pierre is a good 4th outfielder, not for 8-11 million year but there is nothing that can be done now.

And Jones needs at-bats and he will not find them on the 25 man roster..

And Manny in New York is a clusterbomb waiting to explode..

He will get hit in the first AB against the Sox, and he will promptly get pummeled by Youklis in the melee to follow..

"yea ur probally right but but i would want tex over manny because the the sox dont get him and tex will be btter hitting wise in 2-3 years also if we dont get TEX...do u think we can get Dunn AND manny?"

Don't ever say Anybody will be a better hitter than Manny until that day comes..

".do u think we can get Dunn AND manny?"

Dude come on

I still think when it's all said and done Manny will be an Angel: http://www.ontheblack.com/2008/12/17/prediction-manny-will-be-an-angel/

First We are all men here and should know when someone question our abilities it only drives us.
1. Manny is from NY.(Grew up here, Went to school here and played ball here).
2. His mentor was from NY and family still resides in NY.
3. In 2004, during the Alex Rodriguez trade talks, he stated that he would give the Yankees a discount if he was to be traded to NY.
4. Only a fool would play like he did if he didn't want to be there anymore.
Remember guys Boston has history of treating there players like crap. They have been talking about trading him since 2004 campaign. Even before the bad play of Ramirez and before the World Series.

Are you serious? Manny was the flaky idiot who constantly wanted to be traded to get out of the limelight in Boston. They never wanted to trade him because he was such a talent. It was only when he stopped playing they traded him.
Who has Boston treated badly? Pedro? Washed up and wanted too much money. Damon? Followed the $$$ and crossed, he's exceedingly average now too. Lowe? He had a partying problem when he was a free agent and the Sox knew it. The only thing they didn't do is overpay for clubhouse problems when they are washed up.

get it done already!!

Who haven't they treated badly. Here's a few names: Boggs, Clemens, Nomar, Rice, Fisk and now Manny. There's a reason why they don't have an Old-timer's game... no one will show. The last Bosox that left the Sox happy was Yaz. You have a racist and ugly team that hides behind their idiotic fans. Have you noticed that there's only one non-white player on your team and his name is Big Pappi. They had released Manny before the 2004 season, anyone could've claimed him. All he did that year was to have a MVP type season and won the world series MVP.

Here are a few Jason Giambi seasons for all the idiots that think his best season was not close to Manny's worst or the idiot that posted "I seen Molina hit more important HR's last season than Jason"

Last season he hit 32HRs and had 96 RBIs

2006 139 Games - 37HRs 113RBIs 110BBs

2005 139 Games - 32HRs 87RBIs 108BBs

2003 156 Games - 41HRs 107RBI 129BBs

2002 155 Games - 41HRs 122RBI 112BBs

His Oakland days spoke for itself. He was injured in 2004 and 2007, so he had weak numbers. You can say whatever you want about him, but he was a good teammate and had some very memorable moments with the Yankees. His 2 HRs off the great Pedro in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS kept us in the game.

Im 100% sure that manny ramirez is going to be with he yankees ohh and red sox are not singing mark texeira be sure about that
