Do the Mariners have so many quality starters that they can throw Morrow back in the pen if Putz is traded? Uh.. no.
Since starters are about 10X as valuable as relievers, how bout we give Morrow a chance to start before we "Papelbon" him.

Thr33niL is right. I don't care if Putz is traded or not. Morrow needs to be in the rotation until he pitches himself out as an incapable starter. If Morrow works on his pitch counts, I think he can be an effective starter IMO. KEEP HIM THERE. And trade Putz. A rebuilding team doesn't need a closer anyways.

Don't the Mariners still have the chance to sign Josh Fields, maybe the sign him then they wont have to move Morrow to the pen.

Sam- The Josh Fields signing and Morrow's future are irrelevant. Morrow should start off in the rotation regardless, and stay there unless hes ineffective.
I'm against the Fields signing b/c a rebuilding team with a mediocre farm system(top prospects are years away) doesn't need a closer, it needs impact bats/arms. The M's can use the comp pick from not signing Fields on a different player.

I agree with you melonis, Morrow should have been starting from the beginning you don't take a guy 5th overall ahead of guys like Lincecum,Kershaw,Miller and Scherzer to have him in the pen. I'm just saying the drafted a closer why not sign him if there thinking about trading Putz.

Mariners new GM needs to convince ownership to go into sell mode for what they can get value for, notably, Putz and beltre right off should be hot tickets at the meetings and could both go a long way to rebuilding the farm system they depleted in the bedard trade. Johjima they are flat out stuck with, probably the same with washburn unless they eat 1/2 or so of washburn's money and even more of Johjimma's contract, which might just be the worst now in the league?
Bedard a non tender candidate, so no trade value there, but ichiro could get something, doubt Japanese ownership would allow that however.
