« Winter Meetings Day 3 In Review | Main | Mets Acquire Putz In Three-Team Deal »
According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, the Marlins released catcher Matt Treanor. It made sense to do it now rather than Friday, to create roster space for a possible Rule 5 pick.
Treanor, 33 in March, hit .238/.306/.301 in 234 plate appearances this year. The Orioles were linked to him yesterday.

treanor was never that good anyways. he was a decent defensive catcher, but when it came to hitting, he seemed to suck. I liked the guy, but i think that the marlins made a great decision. i think that they are trying to get pudge for a fraction of what they paid in 2003 (10 mil in 2003. hopefully he will still be a free agent by january). im thinking that he can make at most $5.5 million next year, that's something the marlins can afford.
