The Mets signed Francisco Rodriguez yesterday, but GM Omar Minaya is not done tinkering with his bullpen. SI.com's Jon Heyman says Matt Capps, Huston Street, and others are on the radar as setup possibilities. However, teams are asking for Jon Niese and the Mets don't want to give him up. Heyman adds that the Mets have talked to the Mariners and Cubs about relief help as well.

You dont trade Capps unless Mets will give up Jonathon Niese. Draw the line in the sand. Capps value will keep going up.

Omar won't trade enough talent to get Capps, especially if he is only going to be a setup man...

I agree that the Pirates really need to maximize Capps' value. They have like, six guys that have some good trade value on that ML team, and if they deal any of them they need to get some pieces back.
The Pirates don't really have a replacement for Capps ready, and they should probably wait until the market is better.
I don't see why they would deal Capps in such a poor market when he's one of their few valuable assets.
As for Huston Street, make that damn Heilman/Feliciano for Street swap if you still can. A back of the bullpen of Rodriguez and Street, with Smith, Kunz, Ayala, etc. would be pretty good.

Capps is tough maybe the Mets should consider Grabow unless they are willing to trade some talent.

Ayala is a free agent. I know that Street would be a great pickup, but then who is out LOOGY? Showenwies? Boy I hope not. If the Mets make this trade, they better sign or acquire a lefty too then.

Why wouldn't you want Show to be our Loogy? Did you even look at the numbers or are you just too lazy too so you followed the rest of the lazy/ignorant Met fans who don't bother to check the stats?

Show vs lefties: .178/.243/.277 and OPS+ against of 49. Gee, I wouldn't want that guy to face lefties in my bullpen. Why? I don't know, because everyone else wants him gone and I am a sheep? Because I don't bother to verify what I say?

Trade Feliciano and Heilman for Street, sign Beimel. That's a righty and lefty for late innings, and allows smith and schoeneweis to be true righty/lefty specialists. then you've got parnell, kunz, ayala, or whoever to fill out the rest of the spots.
at this point in time that seems to be the best case scenario that i see.

not as much best case, but a combination of the best and most realistic*

As nrmax said, Scho is a very good LOOGY.
It's when he's asked to be more than that that he gets in trouble. The guy kills LH though.

I believe that any bullpen needs at least two lefties anyway. Feliciano is one of the few Mets that actually didn't have a bad year in the pen, so why would you trade him? I would trade Heilman and Kunz for Street. Street is still just 25 years old, so trading a solid prospect wouldn't kill you when you are getting a guy like Street back in return.
