Why would the O's do this to themselves.
Garland and give up valuable draft picks towards building their future?
Its like the O's and Nats are competing to see who can have worse attendance in their market.

The O's should really really steer clear of guys that are NL bound. Haven't they learned anything from Steve Trachsel/Kris Benson/Jaret Wright?
They are going to give up a first round pick and pay a guy money they probably don't even deserve. Spend the money on the draft and free agents that are looking for work and trade some of the vets away for young, cheap players. Stay away from the Jon Garlands of the world.

None of the players discussed above are type A free agents, so the Orioles could sign all of them without giving up a single draft pick.

Jon Garland would not cost the O's a draft pick. He's Type B.

Garland is the best player here and he'll grant the Angels a conpensation sandwich pick, but it won't come from the Os. I think draft picks are very much in the Orioles' calculations, which explains why they are veering away from certain players.

why would the o's want ohman? their relief pitching is really deep.

Sandwich picks aren't given up by the signing team. They're magically created in the sandwich round. The O's do not lose a pick at all.
Although, if the Orioles are going after a Teixeira/Burnett, its worth losing the sandwich pick.

2 years and 6.5 for Cesar Izturis?
I feel like I'm living in bizzaro world.

Um. That's what I said.

Yeah how the hell does Cesar Izturis get a two year deal?
Posted by: scribbletone | December 09, 2008 at 05:13 PM
C'mon Baltimore.... I know you want you some Joltin' Jack Wilson... just like you want a good old fashion beating from the Men of Steel this Sunday.

Roch needs to shut up about Garland's wins -- he played on good White Sox and Angels teams.
Garland's ERA isn't so gaudy, the lowest was 4.44

Wait Roch I take that back -- it was Landis who said that. Sounds like agent-speak anyway
Posted by: exitfare | December 09, 2008 at 05:21 PM
Jon Garland is the Jason Marquis of this offseason. That's it.
Posted by: scribbletone | December 09, 2008 at 05:42 PM
I think I said a few days ago that Garland would want around $13 mil per season. Or something like a 3 year $40 mil deal.
Glad the O's agree with me and think thats a bad idea.
Posted by: XD23 | December 09, 2008 at 08:20 PM
XD23, based on current market value Garland is worth that. Do I think we should pay for that? Hell no.
Posted by: exitfare | December 09, 2008 at 08:30 PM
Aside from the draft pick this might be a good place for Varitek to land?
