i bet the yankees are going to be a "mystery team" for turnbow and end up getting him for 7/123 and 7 cents...

I don't understand the interest in Turnbow. He had exactly ONE good season.

Derrick Turnbow was on the Mitchell Report why would anyone be interested in him if his only good year was a result of steroids?
Posted by: BaltimoreOrioles21 | December 29, 2008 at 02:45 PM
he'll sign with a bottom feeder and do nothing. he'll never make any headlines and slowly he'll rot away like all da other low risk high reward signings out there.

the guy only had 1 good year and he can;t hold a lead, yet theres interest?
Posted by: mikelovesbaseball94 | December 29, 2008 at 02:57 PM
I don't get the interest in Turnblow. The guy has ONE pitch, which is why he gets shelled. I feel sorry for anyone whom signs this guy.
As a brewer fan, I'd be glad if he went to Pitt though, Brauny and Fielder can just crush that turnblow fastball into the seats. =)

Turnbow tested positive for andro. Regarded as a steroid by the Olympics but not by the U.S. government.

Even more puzzling than the interest in this guy in general is why the Marlins would be looking at him, even though they love salvaging guys. I'm still trying to figure out why they let Joe Nelson go.

BaltOrioles21: Turnbow was with the Angels for his mention in the Mitchell report. His "change of scenery" with the Brewers led to his 1.5 good seasons in which he was supposedly clean and there is no reason to doubt that. He always had a good fastball even when things went wrong for him. Control, and not power is his issue.
Whoever gets him better have a good psychologist on staff and a good pitching coach. I think some of his success was due to Mike Maddux helping him out too. However, when he started his mental collapse no pitching coach could have helped him. Anyone who signs him to a MLB contract is crazy.

marlins pick turnbow up
he turn it around in miami like joe, benitiez, and gregg
the marlins need some sort of veteran presence in the bullpen after nelson leaving. the veteran is kensing, and that not going to cut it

Ya, go get him Marlins!!! Please!!

He is a Pirates signing waiting to happen. He'll be the Byung Hyung Kim of 2009 (Kim didn't make it out of spring training with the Pirates and we had to pay him like a 700k buyout).
It could be worth the risk though - who else are the Pirates going to sign?

As a Pirate fan, my offseason excitement is based on whether we sign Derrick Turnbow? God I can't wait for football season to start again.

i was at the game that turnbow's final meltdown came in as a brewer against the cubs, though i left the game before he entered (it was freezing cold that night) and i watched the rest of the game from the cubby bear across the street. he came in for mop-up duty in the 8th, walked the entire ballpark, then served up either a 3-run or a grand slam to soto, when the brewers were already down 10 runs or something. it was one of the most painful experiences i ever saw from a reliever, and i watched latroy hawkins and kyle farnsworth try to close games. just goes to show, if you can throw really hard, someone will look at you.

It doesn't matter how good you are, if you're a closer, you're gonna get the bling because most teams are desperate.
