« Manny Ramirez Rumors: Tuesday | Main | Giants, Ramon Ortiz Agree To Terms »
According to MLB.com's Matthew Leach, the Cardinals hold "some sliver of hope" that an arbitration hearing can be avoided with outfielder Ryan Ludwick.
Ludwick asked for $4.25MM and the Cardinals countered with a $2.8MM bid back when figures were due. That gap is obviously going to be tough to overcome, but the Red Birds do have some time. Ludwick's hearing won't take place until Tuesday, February 17.
The 30-year-old exploded last season, finising with a line of .299/.375/.591, including 37 home runs and 113 RBI.

.299 37 113? well i am sure he can at least hit about 20hrs over 90rbis with a 270sh average which is still really good even if he cant produce the numbers for last year.

He's shown consistent improvement the last couple years and really saw the ball well last year. Unless he gets injured, I think his 2009 numbers will be 35+ hrs, 120+ rbis, 100+ runs, .290+ avg.
He has real star potential in my opinion. Give him $3.65 mil and call it a day.

Brett Boone used to be an average player and he exploded after he was 30 (32 to be exact). I think Ludwick has a few good years ahead of him. I'm sure benefits more from hitting in front of/behind the best hitter in baseball. If he were on a different team, you would have probably seen less production from him.

i am a cubs fan.. however i think he does need to prove himself this year... atlest... last year he was great but can he do it again??? i dont think an if i was a caed fans i would be more worried about pitching then anything else and a closer... you guys are the only thing in the cubs way next year i think

Brett Boone also had help from steroids. Interestingly enough, both Boone and Ludwick have siblings who played in the big leagues.

Boone never tested positive from steroids, but he did gain like 25-40 pounds in 1 offseason. I'm not saying that he did, but a 28-30 year old guy may think about steroids if it means making more than Triple A/league minimum type of money. You don't need to be big and bulky to be on the juice.

cubs4life: Nice English there... at least we can say the St. Louis public schools are working better than Chi-Town's... and yes, our pitching does blow...
