If the Giants were to give up any of their future in order to land Nady, I would get a neat chuckle out of that. They're better off just sticking with Winn/Rowand/Lewis in the outfield, and some combination of Ishikawa and Sandoval at first.
And I'd like to see Lou stay in Chicago for longer than two more years, but I guess we'll see. He's a good manager though, no doubt.

Unless the Giants were to manage to trade either Randy Winn (seems tome the Yankees don't really need him) or Aaron Rowand (good luck moving that contract) for Nady, I think they ought to just go with what they have on this one. Fred Lewis will be thier most productive OF this year and Schierholtz needs to get some AB's to see if he can be the everyday RF next year

Honestly, I'd probably rather have Winn than Nady. Better defense, more speed, and better plate discipline to offset Nady's superior power.
Although obviously Rowand for Nady would be a steal for San Francisco. The Yanks aren't nearly that dumb. The Giants should move Rowand at the very first instance that they get the opportunity, because his contract sucks and I doubt he'll get any better from here on out. He can thank Citizens Bank Park for all those millions that stadium made for him.

"Defaulting" on a loan is a term I've heard before, but what does it actually mean?

The X Man has always had a bay area following so general intrest in him is not new news. But at this point he really doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Giants to go out and get right now.
If talking this year Winn might be giving up more than getting back. Right Field in S.F. might be the toughest to right field in the League so a difference in glove work can’t be automaitacally ignored. The Giants also need to play Sandoval, Ishikawa and Nate. A couple months into the season, with a lot of playing time, and this could change but tell then the X man would be very problematic.
Longer term Rowand either starts to get his defensive game in order or the Giants are going to have to find a corner Outfield spot for him. Getting the X Man would complicate that as well.

I'm a Royals fan, but I'm disappointed Shealy wasn't claimed by somebody else...

Basically, they didnt pay what they were supposed to, and apparently it was 500m

"I'm a Royals fan, but I'm disappointed Shealy wasn't claimed by somebody else..."
HM - I'm also a little suprised someone didn't claim him and then place him on waivers 2 days from now. Someone like the Marlins could have claimed him and then on Sunday tried to sneak him through waivers.
Always liked his power. If he were a lefty, he'd be worth more.

"At some point"...
Yeah, at 30, Nady is too young for the Giants. They'll get him when he turns 35.

Looks like maybe the Rangers could have a plummeting salary structure range now for a few seasons. Who would want to invest in a minority with a team that has a majority partner who just defaulted on 500m in past bills? Selig and the other owners could at some point step in and maybe even force the issue and tell him to sell out, they did it to Charlie "O"Finley when Kuhn was Commissioner and otherwise tainted owners way back, but then, Selig is spineless and we now have ex agents as owners also..

I think the Giants will go after Holliday this offseason. Sorry, but when the Yanks don't go after Matty (I think the Yanks keep Nady beyond '09 if he doesn't plummet too much, the Giants have needed a power hitter for a long time and Holliday can also play that deep LF. Although it sounds like a horrible idea for the Giants, it just sounds too obvious not to happen IMHO.

WEll, not necessarily too obvious, but the Giants *will* be in the bidding.

when will people realize this joke is not funny anymore ?
our starting 3B is 22 years old
our starting 1B is 25 years old
starting LF is 28
starting 2B is 24
3 of our starting 5 pitchers are 26 or younger
all except 2 pitchers in the bullpen are under 30
is that an old team to you?
Posted by: Bleacher_bum_SF | April 03, 2009 at 11:05 PM
You sure know how to exaggerate one simple statement. I never called the Giants old. I just said they wouldn't pick up a guy like Nady until he's 35. That's it.
Posted by: bryan | April 04, 2009 at 12:05 AM
why would they wait until he's 35?
he would be too old and you said the Giants are not old so what is your explanation?
Posted by: Bleacher_bum_SF | April 04, 2009 at 12:46 AM
The Giants being old joke may not be funny anymore, but a Barry Zito contract joke will never get stale!
7yrs/$128m for Matt Holliday!!

Giants fans are tired of that too we just want an average season from him which I actually think he will exceed and pitch well
Posted by: Bleacher_bum_SF | April 04, 2009 at 01:11 AM
Bleacher bum,
As a diehard Giants fan I have come to face the fact that Zito's contract has become the laughing stock of Major League Baseball. Ownership has claimed that his contract has not choked us, which may be true, but given the history of bad contracts over the last 4 seasons (s'up Dave Roberts?) it may take some time before we stop taking crap, and the Giants start spending some real money. Now supposedly the purse strings have been loosened for a mid-season swap, and Holliday would definitely be awesome, but be prepared to keep taking crap for that Zito contract for many years to come. Thanks to Sabian's Tire Kicking, they deserve everything they get for that one....

Rex I agree. As things now stand Holiday and Beltre will be front and center on next winter’s shopping list for the Giants. It just makes too much sense.
******
Smiff: If you didn’t get a laugh out of that screw up you are not human. Of course there is fine line between taunting and chuckling. As far as I am concerned chuckle away.
****
Bryan: What is the point of the move for the Giants? Nady would probably play best at First base for the Giants. It is possible first base is where Guzman, Ishikawa, Bowker ( if he reaches the majors to stay) and Sandoval are best suited for as well. The team needs to sort though some of that batch first before they go bringing in more.
