« Discussion: Which Team Has The Best Young Core? | Main | Pirates DFA Craig Monroe »
Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports that the Diamondbacks have agreed to terms with first round pick AJ Pollock. The deal is believed to include a $1.4MM signing bonus, which would be below MLB's expected slot recommendation of $1.55MM.The centerfielder from Notre Dame was the 17th overall selection and the second of the D-Backs' back-to-back first round selections.
The deal is still pending a physical, which is scheduled for Monday.

He needs to become a second baseman, unless Chris Young is traded. We have no one to take over for Lopez, so by 2011 he will become a replacement. Question is, who becomes the 2b in 2010?

Or move him over to left field, to take over when the Byrnes contract is mercifully over.

Gerardo Parra?
That dude is legit.

Parra's a center fielder by nature, too- that's where he's played in the minors.
Maybe they just plan to put three center fielders out there from now on.

Young is an amazing center fielder, albeit a sub-par arm. I don't think it'd be a stretch to say he might win a Gold Glove in the future. He's all of a sudden put it together as a hitter for a while, before getting hurt.
Parra although, has a cannon of an arm which is underutilized in left and better suited for center.
I wish that when Upton was drafted Drew would've became a second baseman so Upton could stay at short. Because Drew has a hard time going to his left (up the middle as a shortstop) but fantastic going to his right (up the middle as a second baseman). There's probably a reason for it, but I'm missing it.

Don't mistake Justin Upton playing short stop for Justin Upton playing short stop well.
And with the kind of arm he has, only an idiot would move him out of right field
