« Yankees Rumors: DeRosa, Molina, Duncan | Main | Odds And Ends: Snell, DeRosa, Kearns »
Shawn Estes told Chris Gabel of the Reno Gazette-Journal that he "retired from Triple A," not from baseball. Earlier in the month we heard that Estes had retired, but his recent comments make it clear that he wants to pitch in the majors again.
He was tiring of the minor league lifestyle and decided not to pitch in Triple A anymore. All the major league teams received an e-mail explaining that any interested club should contact Ned Colletti and the Dodgers, who say they won't ask for a significant return.

Estes just "expects" to play for a major league club? what if he needs to be sent down to make room for an obviously better player, is he going to want off that team too? pass...

I, too, would like to play in the majors.

Me too, Jason. Let's send emails out to all the teams as well.

The perception exists that Shawn Estes is not good enough for a major league roster. How he would go about disproving that - by playing in the minors and putting up better numbers than everyone else. Worked for his former Isotopes teammates Milton and Weaver, no? How you would not go about doing that - by "retiring from AAA".
Estes wasn't very good to begin with and now he comes off as spoiled.

He was putting up pretty good numbers at AAA though.
So many senior citizens with unrealistic goals in the game though, like Pedro Martinez & Kenny Lofton wont play for the minimum+bonuses when thats the only way theyd get work (and they WOULD get work).

So, let me see if I have this right, if I email every MLB team saying I want to play for any of them for basically nothing in return, I will get my wish? I like the way this guy thinks! Haha

Friends, I too have grown weary of making $35K per year with substandard working conditions. If any of you know someone who wants to give me $400,000 this year instead, please let me know.

"He was putting up pretty good numbers at AAA though."
Yeah, in general his AAA numbers this year were pretty good, but he only struck out 40 guys in 73 innings, and I just can't imagine how he'll get guys out in the majors if his stuff is that hittable.

That's pretty low, but how many does he walk? (Answer: even less). There are other ways to win games than striking out a bunch. He has put up good numbers in triple-A so I can understand his desire to play, and his frustration -- especially for a guy who once had such promise.
