Amaro Jr: We're going to trade for starting pitching.
Olney: The Phillies will trade for a starting pitcher "at some point."
This is why he makes the big bucks!

That's why he's part of "The best team in baseball"

Who would blow over Wade and McLane with such a deal for Oswalt? We are June 1st, so I can't see anyone doing that kind of a deal just yet. It would be a clear overpay to obtain Oswalt since he is McLane's boy. I'll have to look up if he has a partial NTC.

He does, because he said he'd use it if they tried to trade him to the White Sox

I like Oswalt, and would be happy with him in the Phillies rotation. However, if McLane/Wade are asking for multiple top prospects for him, no thanks.
The dude will be 32 by the time the season is over. He's been trending downward and he's expensive.

I think Oswalt is still legit. Second half last year he was dominant. According to Fangraphs his velo is actually up this year from last year. Only 31, and controllable for 2.5 years (have to figure that 2012 he'd either opt out if he's coming off a good year, or team would decline if he's hurt)
I like him a slightly more than Peavy because of the lower BB rate. Plus he's not going to be intimidated by any hitters parks having played in Tropicana
It makes sense that they'd demand a huge bounty for him. It's probably the right thing to do for HOU right now and their barren system as well

Is there a more uninspiring, awful, screwed up, horribly run, baffling, and altogether dismal team in baseball than the Astros? Just wondering, 'cause it seems like McLane is hellbent on destroying that franchise. He sabotages his club at every turn and makes nonsensical, arbitrary, and unproductive choices at every turn. Good stuff Drayton!

*Minute Maid. Damnit, mixed up my OJ parks

Wonder if the Phils would be interested in Uehara...if he comes back strong, that is. With all of the young pitching coming up to Baltimore, it might make sense for the O's, though I'm not sure that's the splash that Philly is looking for. They seem to be targeting guys like Oswalt, Peavy, and Bedard and, as good as Uehara has been, he ain't that good.

Uehara doesn't miss enough bats to interest Philly IMO

Come one Phillies, you guys want a Bedard. He wont ask as much, though you can gurantee that we will be asking for a top prospect. Bedard is cheap and currently out of Oswalt and Peavy, Bedard has better numbers and has been pitching very very well. Also, this guy has a curve that just dazzles me. If you guys dont want him I hope that we can end up resigning him.

I wouldn't mind Bedard but I don't know how interested the Phillies Front Office is in him.
He's a lefty, which means the Phils would have 4 lefties in their starting 5.
Plus, rumors are the Phils aren't interested in Penny partly due to his character issues. I would imagine they wouldn't be too high on Bedard either.

if an Oswalt converastion starts with Drabek SAY NO.
If a Bedard conversation stats with the same, likewise, say no.
Drabek's moving to AA now. Let him progress and he could be in philly as a #2 by the end of 2010.
