Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star has some quotes from Gil Meche about the possibility of him waiving his no-trade clause.
“When that time comes,” [Meche] said, “then I’ll answer that question. But I’m not going to address speculation. Do I want to go somewhere? No. That’s about all I can say...I don’t want to go anywhere...I know this is the last year of the no-trade (clause) in my contract, but I would like to be here to win. That’s why I signed to come here in the first place.”
Meche is in the third year of a 5-year/$55MM deal which will pay him $12MM in each of the next two seasons. The '09 season is the final year with a no-trade clause. Meche is 4-8 with a 4.14 ERA this season.

If KC could sign another pitcher or too they could be good next year. They should look into getting Halladay.

Why would a team like Kansas City look at Halladay? Their future depends on the young talent in their system. Is one pitcher worth trading away their best upcoming talent? Halladay is for a team that needs an ace to put them over the top, not for a team that still has plenty of holes.

The Royals could compete if they get a completely new lineup. No offense, but I don't think anyone in their lineup would start anywhere else, except for maybe 5 teams or so. Maybe Billy Butler would start in Oakland and some other teams, but that's about it.

bigpat you should really watch baseball. you clearly dont. butler is hitting 292. playoff teams want teahen. callaspo is hitting over 300. theres no other way to put it than this: your completely wrong.

Teahan can help teams out as a utility man, he shouldn't be a starter on a contender and I don't think anyone wants him to be one. Callaspo is not bad, but is probably a bottom 10 second baseman. DeJesus used to be pretty good, but he's struggling this year, and Gordon is hurt. I said Butler is a good player, but he's still not producing at the rate a first baseman should. Sorry, but their lineup is very bad and there's no getting around it.

@Calriver
The last problems of the royals is pitching. There is no point of getting Roy Halladay.
Any team who gets him will be a team that he can help win with this year.
Royals are not officially out yet, but if they manage to get back in it, it'll be past the deadline. We don't have that kind of money.
@BigPat
Butlers doing fine for a first baseman. Our main problems are coming from the outfield, even though DeJesus has been real hot lately. Maier and Gullien are very bad. Looks like Freel is gonna take over Maier, and he's been doing good so far.
We need to fix RF and SS.

gotta respect a guy who publicly says he is happy and wants to stay with a team whether winning or losing.

C'mon now... DeJesus is leading the team in RBI's, which idk if thats a good thing or a bad thing, and there's no production at DH which is a huge problem, but if u would look at the Opening Day line-up, injuries have just killed the Royals. Simply put... Overall, the pitching has been around B+ which is pretty good...
