I'm surprised the Indians outrighted Scotty Lewis. Sadly it looks like his 4 September wins in 4 September starts as a rookie may be the high point of his career. It's a shame he can never stay healthy.

that's a punch in the gut of Giants fans.

I'm really hoping Juan Uribe comes back to the Giants but I have a feeling he will go with another team just to play everyday instead of being a super utility man with us
I wish we could just eat Renteria's final year and have Uribe at SS

I'm not really concerned. Hopefully Uribe goes to some other team so Sabean doesn't have the chance to overpay for him based off of 3 good months of play.

I don't believe Uribe's decision to test the waters is a bad thing at all. It saves us from Sabean overpaying him with a ridiculous contract. Uribe was hitting .238 in the AL and was basically on the scrap heap when the Giants picked him up. He came over to the NL and prospered with the majority of pitchers throwing him fastballs. Once the NL figures out what the AL knew...throw him a slider or curveball in the dirt and you'll see him spinning around in circles as he strikes out...he will come back down to earth.

Outrighting Scott Lewis, while leaving Chris Giminez, Andy Marte, and Jose Veras?
When MLB ready pitching is your major weak point, that's a pretty weak move.

To Tim Dierkes:
Wow, just when I think I can end this two-year-old thread (Rich Hill vs. Ryan Theriot) the hits just keep on coming. Hill put on waivers by the Orioles. Still think Hill has more upside than Theriot? Let's look at those peripheral stats on Hill again. What is Bill James saying?!
You know I love you, Tim. Your site is the reason I get up in the morning. :)

Can't figure out Takashi Saito and Marcus McBeth. McBeth was lights out in Pawtucket, was brought up but never used. Saito adjusted fully in the 2nd half. I had thought passing on Saito's option was simply to re-negotiate. If the Sox wind up trading Bard, Delcarmen or Bowden, they will have a tough time re-creating a strong Pen without Saito & McBeth.

Hawkins is an okay reliever but he will probably be overpaid this off-season. His 2009 FIP was only 3.97, in contrast his 2.13 ERA, and his high LOB% was unsustainable. Plus it's going to be his age 37 season.

I agree with dregarz and humm baby, Uribe testing the market can only be a good thing for the G-men. If he comes back it will be at market rate, not Sabean gritty vet scale!

I have been saying this for years, but Rich Hill would be perfect additon to the Mets given their ballpark and left-handed heavy oppents. They did turn Oliver Perez around for two years. That at least deserves some credit.

This is what happens when top Sox leaders start to move.. They take even more with them. Now Mike Hazen maybe to follow? This could really hurt if Hazen goes to SD and really help San Diego *IF* they will bump up the money alloted to rule 4 drafts and IFA signings and imagine that would affect his joining them, hopefully the new ownership their will remain cheap and refuse to do that and he will stay in Boston.
