« Heyman On Figgins, Pineiro, Braves | Main | Yankees To Tender Contract To Brian Bruney? »
Jon Heyman must have bumped into Mark DeRosa's agent today, because the SI reporter lists eight clubs that have already called on the player. Heyman's tweet indicates the Yankees, Mariners, Nationals, Dodgers, Phillies, Rangers, Orioles, and Giants have inquired.
That seems to be an indication that DeRosa's November wrist surgery will not limit his market.

would he play left for the yanks? I see damon asa better fit because he is a lefty and shows how much yankee stadium helps lefties

The Dodgers want him to play Second? I hope not.

I second that. DeRosa is wonderful utility player, but we need power. Uggla? Maybe - though his attitude at times is wanting and he strikes out a bit much. DeRosa for a utility infielder yes, but as our every-day 2nd baseman - no.

WOW I AMM SO HAPPY Giants ill get Uggla who will play 3rd base and Nick Johnson who will play 1st base and Derosa who will play LF.

Rowand
Renteria
Pitcher
WOw and with their pitching staff wow will they be GOOD It is realistic Uggla-8m
Derosa-8m

and the cubs right please?...well i can dream

black and proud, the lineup you have there is pretty screwy and with the exception of sandoval still lacks good solid average hitters for the giants whose issues are they dont get guys on base. id also be surprised if they were able to get all of this done.

BTW both Mark Derosa and Nick Johnson earn 5.5m while Uggla at 5.35m but i am pretty sure Uggla ill get a raise?
Posted by: Black-And-Proud | November 11, 2009 at 03:08 PM
yankees88 but it is realistic for the Giants to trade for uggla and get johnson and derosa in free agency
Posted by: Black-And-Proud | November 11, 2009 at 03:09 PM
Uggla will make 7-8m this upcoming year.
Also, do you have Sandoval catching or something?

B&P -
Johnson at first, Uggla at third...
Did you put pablo behind the plate? Really? With one of the best position prospects in the game on the verge you want to get 2 guys and force pablo behind the plate?
That just doesn't make sense...
Posted by: rotorobby | November 11, 2009 at 03:10 PM
with pablo catching... posey will be in the minors for 2-3 more years... unless they move him to SS and have him take over for renteria next year... which, honestly, doesn't seem realistic

I'd rather take a chance on Nady in left than spend for derosa... nady should be cheaper and could put up better numbers... 1 year incentive deal with a team option sounds good to me... nady is a CAL kid too...

"and the cubs right please?...well i can dream"
God, please, no.
If the Cubs were to entertain bringing him back, it would likely end up a 2-3 year contract for 7+ per. But DeRosa will be 35 (ie, "stay away from" years) off a poor and injury filled season. Plus, the most likely position for him to play on the Cubs (2B) is the position he is worst at.
Hendry signing DeRosa would just be the newest in a long line of horrible contracts given out.

rotorobby makes a good point about nady except he could be in high demand because he would have to be priced low.

and B&P youre looking at a Yankee caliber offseason. dont forget the giants have very little prestige and wont exactly blow these guys away with a huge contract offer

DeRosa is a quality 2B, a great clubhouse guy, and fan favorite. I highly doubt he'd cost 7 a year, and him being at that age? Thats what they said when they traded him away, and he put up another career year on top of what was his best in 08.

“DeRosa is a quality 2B,”
Of 2B the last 3 years, 35th of 38th in UZR/150
“a great clubhouse guy, and fan favorite.”
Don’t disagree, but that doesn’t mean it’s a smart business move.
“ I highly doubt he'd cost 7 a year”
Casey Blake made just under 6MM/per for 3 with a 4th year option at the same age last offseason. Meanwhile Hendry has overpaid on every single contract he has given out the last 3 seasons.
And the team is set to be about 10 MM over last years payroll just to keep this team together. Adding another 7 to it means we almost certainly have to remove another 7 or so (remember, we arent offering Harden arbitration because we cant afford his expected 10MM). But all the contracts he has compiled are no-trade guys (exception of Dempster who is 14MM per over 3), so we cant easily trade anyone to make cap room.
“and him being at that age? Thats what they said when they traded him away, and he put up another career year on top of what was his best in 08”
Another career year in 2009? Where were you? It was his first sub-100 OPS+ season since 2005.
But with 8 teams chasing him, competition is heavy so his dollar cost is rising even with his production headed south.

black and proud:
Initially I was thinking exactly what you were thinking...but I think it will be more realistic to sign Johnson which seems to be almost a given at this point (high OBP first baseman) and either trade for uggla OR sign DeRosa. after that I think resigning Penny and Uribe will be the final steps towards assembling a decent playoff team.

I think it's between DeRosa and Swisher for the "all time greatest slightly above average player" award.
