Here's a few links on a gorgeous Saturday, at least around these parts...
- Acquiring Carlos Gomez allows the Brewers to wave goodbye to Mike Cameron, and Tom Haudricourt of The Journal Sentinel says they'll use the savings on pitching. "We're going to have to take our resources that we gave to Mike and distribute them to fill other needs for our ballclub," said GM Doug Melvin. "We've said pitching is our focus. We still have other needs, like any club. And the salaries of our other players go up, too."
- The return of Manny Ramirez allows the Dodgers to resume searching for a trade partner for Juan Pierre, according to Dylan Hernandez of The LA Times. Pierre still has two-years and $18.5MM remaining on his contract.
- In today's blog post, ESPN's Buster Olney says that Brandon Webb will be prime trade bait in the middle of next season if he makes it all the way back and the Diamondbacks aren't in contention.
- Jason A. Churchill of Prospect Insider takes a look at some offseason options for the Mariners.
- Meanwhile, former Mariner Kenji Johjima can provide some additional input on American pitchers the Hanshin Tigers may pursue, notes Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker. Patrick also passes along a report that lists some pitchers Hanshin is looking at, including two Mariners: Ryan Rowland-Smith and Chris Jakubauskas.
- Rowland-Smith is on Twitter, and was a little surprised by the news.
- Bob Dutton of The KC Star takes a look at the newest Royals, Chris Getz and Josh Fields.
- Maury Brown at The Biz of Baseball lists all 39 players who filed for free agency on Friday.
KC just turning into a minor league team. Fields - not good - Getz - played very little. Bad deal again.

Heh--really?
Fields and Getz still have time to develop, while Teahan has reached his peak and will likely get worse.
Not to mention the length of time the Royals can control both Getz and Fields--and the depth they have in the infield allows further trades.
The trade was one-sided, but in favor of the Royals, not the White Sox.

If the Mets are serious about trading for pitching... wait for Brandon Webb. Keep Mike Pelfrey and Webb would be the perfect tutor. Sign Marquis and another from the pool of FAs and bang you have pitching depth and its of quality as well.

"KC just turning into a minor league team. Fields - not good - Getz - played very little. Bad deal again."
Yeah, not quite sure how you get that.
Teahan is one of the worst regulars in the game. He is a below average hitter and horrific fielder at a position which should give positive production. His 2.6 WAR puts him 121st of the 132 qualified hitters the last 3 seasons. When including all the unqualified hitters and pitchers, he drops roughly another 300 places – he ends up at 435th on the value scale the last 3 seasons for all players in the game. And that WAR total he sports is increased a ton by his fielding in the OF and at 1B, if he were solely ranked as a 3B (where it is said the Sox will play him) he might rival Y. Betancourt for the worst position player in the game. The fact he will make upwards of 4 million for 2009 just makes him an all around joke.
What the Royals get is two cheap, fairly inexperienced but with potential, young players who in a worst case work as stop-gaps or depth, in a good case become serviceable and in a best case develop into a solid player. Considering they gave up nothing more then a horrific unwanted, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. This was an extremely poor deal for the Sox, not the Royals, and I am fairly blown away Moore was able to pull off such a steal. The cost of Teahan should have been a couple AA guys who likely never see the majors, not ML capable players with potential for more.

Why the hell would RRS go to Japan?

Getz had a decent rookie season. Had the same avg. as Teahan's career avg. He's got more speed and plays pretty good defense at 2nd which the Royals sorely need. That frees them to trade Callaspo or make him a DH. Fields is a project, but pretty much a throw in. Royals need a center fielder and it seems the dodgers are shopping Pierre. Royals definitely get the best of this trade.

that is exactley what the brewers should do. They already have gomez, so cameron is usless there. That is 10 million $ that they can spend on pitching.
Finally Doug Melvin is doing something for the fans

Even know i am a brewers fan, i feel bad for the Mets. They had a great team and then had all those injuries. They will be a much improved team this year. They will get Matt Holliday
Posted by: stephen | November 08, 2009 at 10:25 AM
The brewers will get John Garland
Posted by: stephen | November 08, 2009 at 10:26 AM
Why would the giants sign Jones. He is on his last year? it dosen't make sense.

"Juan Pierre for Milton Bradley????"
Why would anyone ever say that? The Dodgers will have NOTHING to do with Milton Bradley yet again, while the Cubs will have NOTHING to do with Juan Pierre yet again.
