So Snyder get’s stashed away in the minors. That leaves 5 current rule 5 picks who are still on the team that drafted them.
Lincecame
Giants give up a guy who’s 33-19 with a 2.88 in the minors for a guy who’s 2-5 with a 5?
Still with these crappy deals?
Michael
please tell me this comment is an april fool’s joke…
Lincecame
I don’t see how, at all. that would be a joke.
Fill me in if I’m missing something.

They traded one guy that is almost 25 with no chance of ever pitching for the Giants for an 18 year old with some potential. Now you’re filled in
Michael
you’re using wins and ERA to evaluate prospects, it’s hard to pick worse statistics to base almost anything off of, especially prospects. Snyder is a 24-year-old in AA who doesn’t really have much upside whereas Escobar is only 18-years-old and has shown some promise in his young professional career.
Here’s what Baseball America had to say about him:
“Hidden behind Escobar’s 5.00 ERA and excessive number of baserunners lies a strong foundation. Consider his peripherals. While making his pro debut last season, Escobar struck out 9.6 and walked 3.2 batters per nine innings, while allowing only one home run in 12 starts. He pitches at 88-92 mph with some sink and has a fringy curveball that shows flashes of becoming something more than that. He’s solidly built and already shows advanced feel for his age.”
We give up guy who probably won’t ever see the majors and get a young lefty with some potential.

Giants give up a 24 yr old AA pitcher for an 18yo lefty with some potential. No problems here.

Not a bad trade at all.
