Red Sox Designate Boof Bonser For Assignment

The Red Sox designated Boof Bonser for assignment to make room for Felix Doubront, according to DJ Bean of Bonser, 28, missed much of the season with a groin strain, so he has appeared in just two games for the Red Sox since they acquired him from the Twins this offseason. He has logged two innings and allowed six hits and a pair of walks, without striking any hitters out.

Bonser drew interest from the Cubs and D'Backs before the season, before his groin became an issue. The D'Backs have been looking for pitching, though Bonser's injury has likely tempered their interest. Red Sox manager Terry Francona told Bean that Bonser is pretty healthy and that "Boof is going to pitch in the big leagues."

Looking forward to Doubront’s start tonight. The best followup for Manny’s ovation would be a three pitch strikeout.

Shocked. really thought he would get a bit more of a chance. His FB had the velocity in the 2 games (92-94) guess they just couldn’t afford for him to get his flat and awful slider into game shape.

Maybe he will stick around after all if little/no interest with his recent shoulder and hamstring(?) injuries and be able to stick him at AAA for a little while and get him into “working” condition. Thought he might be a real replacement for masterson as the emergency SP/long guy this year when they signed him over the winter.

Agreed. I thought they would send Richardson back down for now and give Bonser more of a look.

I guess now it’s Bedtime for Bonser.

How about a San Francisco reunion? He couldn’t be worse than Todd Wellemeyer.
