Why can they just do this? This would never be allowed with an American player.

They was probably a falsehood on the contract. Maybe a false age or name. Just spitting out ideas.

I had no clue that you could do that? Interesting none the less.

I didn’t know that you were able to take away some money of a bonus. Interesting none the less.

Probably lied about his age…

Common.

In the article it says that there is a shoulder issue right now but the agent is saying that it is false.

If you don’t follow a contract they are able to break the rules i believe, not sure…

If they are able to reduce their signing bonus, I am sure he had the option to sign with another team. Even with a shoulder issue, I don’t see how they can change it that much. They would miss out on what 6 months tops on getting him into action?
When I read this I immediately thought “age misrepresentation” Similar things have happened in the past. Salcedo comes to mind(from the Braves) He signed for “x” amount for one team, but after his age came into question, he was released from that contract, signed with another team for less money.

Speaking of Salcedo, I gotta feel bad for the kid. Sure I’m glad he’s in the Braves’ system now, but he actually wasn’t lying and lost out on a lot more money and a ton of time he could’ve spent developing.

“Peguero signed for what would have been the largest bonus for an international amateur free agent in 2010, but that distinction now belongs to Blue Jays prospect Adonis Cardona.”
Hmm.. I thought Aroldis Chapman’s bonus signed in 2010 was over $10MM?
