Castillo Hopes To Sign With Another Team

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | March 18, 2011 at 10:31am CDT

Luis Castillo told Newsday's Jim Baumbach that he intends to play Major League Baseball in 2011 (all Twitter links). The Mets released him this morning, but he plans to sign elswhere.

"I'm going to wait, go home and hope to catch on with another team," Castillo said.

Castillo told Baumbach that he's frustrated the Mets didn't use him more. However, Castillo says he'll be "fine," since he has accomplished a lot as a major leaguer. The Phillies and Tigers have dealt with injuries at second base this spring, but there's no indication that either team is interested in Castillo.

    Hey Rube Amaro……..BE DIALING!!!!!!!!!

Castillo is one year removed from a .302/.387/.346 line, and his glove still has some life left in it, at $450k that’s a good bet.

Um, unless I’m missing something, Chipper did not just get realeased, Chipper is not available for the MLB minimum, Chipper would require a trade, and Chipper does not play second base.

Other than that, the comparison really is apples to apples. Good job there guy.

I think his point was that you can’t use the “he’s one year removed from a GREAT season” with aging, injury-prone players.

As a Mets fan, I can only hope Philly picks him up…..you’ll get a .230 BA singles hitter who has become a defensive liability. Good luck with that.

Castillo is lucky if he gets ashot to play in the minors. He has a terrible attitude and im sure the players are thrilled he is gone.

No one had to get into an arguement with him not to like him. The guy was a
        corpse at second base.

And the rep comes from about every ML scout in baseball. Are you defending
the fact that he was released? If you are look at his stats and his DL
stints since he signed that contract.

Even though the guy struggled (big emphasis on STRUGGLED), I don’t think he will be on the market for long. He’s still a decent player, good experience, and for league minimum? I don’t see why NOT pick him up. Give it a shot.

As much as I hate to say it, The Cardinals should take him since he’ll only cost the min. He’s better on defense & offence than Skip.
