Chuck Greenberg Out As Rangers CEO

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | March 11, 2011 at 11:03am CDT

11:03am: The Rangers have officially announced that Greenberg will no longer be a part of the organization, according to Anthony Andro of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (on Twitter). Nolan Ryan will take over as team CEO.

7:50am: Rangers managing general partner and CEO Chuck Greenberg will no longer be part of Texas' managing team, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News (on Twitter). Greenberg upset a number of people as managing partner, but his undoing came when he bothered team president Nolan Ryan, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com, who confirms the news (on Twitter).

Greenberg's group took over the Rangers in August. He launched an aggressive pursuit of Cliff Lee this winter and later claimed that he out-foxed the Yankees in pursuit of the left-hander, who signed in Philadelphia.

Just read on Jon Heymans Twitter- greenberg claim: outmaneuvered #yanks on cliff lee. reality: chuck annoyed lee camp w/ constant visits, late/lowball bids.

Now that you mention it, I’m picturing Greenberg giving Nolan Ryan a wet willie or something. lol

The big problem is that Greenberg is a clone of Hicks. He wanted to start his ownership with a huge deal and sent mixed messages from ownership in the pursuit of Lee. I think Ryan wanted to be professional, but Greenberg kept going “Ya hoo! I got me a suitcase full of money and I want to make a deal!”

Yankees fans can take glee in Greenberg stepping down…though it might be the only glee they get all year. Now they can go back to watching Cashman and Levine having their own problems.

I will now picture Nolan Ryan grabbing that punk in a headlock and repeatedly punching him. What an awesome mental image to start my day.

Might be funny is Greenberg was anything but a minority owner in the franchise and barely used any of his own money.

I think Chuck’s check was only in the 2 to 7M range. The two oil billionaires are still there… Greenberg’s dismissal is more a shock to the fanbase due to his extreme willingness for fan interaction and drive to enhance the fan experience.

Nolan hasn’t taken to the mound in ages and he’s still striking people out. Gotta love it!

The Rangers sure are a model of stability. Less than a year after a bankruptcy auction the CEO is ousted.

Good thing is the players on the owner decide who wins and loses. The owners are just the deep pocket corporation who lose money on an expensive hobby while building eq

Yes, Nolan Ryan is the model of stability.

I think people are going to surprised by his ownership prowess.
