By Ben Nicholson-Smith | March 31, 2011 at 7:52am CDT

The Indians announced that they acquired minor league outfielder Bubba Bell from the Red Sox for cash considerations. and assigned him to Triple-A. The 2005 draft pick had spent his entire pro career in the Red Sox organization until now.

Bell spent last season at Triple-A Pawtucket, where he hit .293/.366/.399 in 396 plate appearances. The 28-year-old has a .292/.370/.447 line in six pro seasons and has considerable minor league experience at all three outfield positions.

I always loved Bubba Bell, if for nothing else than his name. He was always fun to hear announced at Spinners games back in the day.

Making room for Van Every to come back for a third time?

Hopefully Zach Daeges is still around and over the broken foot problems.. Able to play this season. Not that he is at this point (age wise) a much better prospect than bell, but some younger than VanEvery.

Well Daeges used to be compared to Youk as potentially late blooming prospect. But after 2 straight years of major injuries I think his small window of time is passed. As far as I know he’s still rehabbing.

That is really a shame.. He was a really nice hitting older prospect also until those last 2 years when those foot problems derailed everything.

I mentioned that in the article about the Nats releasing him. I can see him somehow ending up with us again.

I thought Bubba had more potential than Nava. Even though I loved Nava’s first major league hit.

The reason for the Indians side of the deal is they been contacted over the spring by 3 teams about Sizemore locally it was reported 2 of the teams are thought to be The Royals and Sizemore’s hometown of Seattle as soon as Sizemore shows he is healthy he could be dealt at anytime after that. It is known that he will be dealt at some point by the trade deadline anyways.

Bubba can play CF and still has 3 options left for the Indians to play with but the current CF in Columbus who really opened eyes in Spring Training Carrera will get the first shot and call up when Sizemore is traded.

I look for no less than 5 guys to be cut traded or sent back to the minors on the Indians current 25 man roster Sizemore / Carmona / Kearns / Everitt / Hanahann / Duncan / Talbot — to be replaced at some point by Carerra / White / Weglarz / Kipnis / Chisenhall / Nick Johnson / Zack McAllister .

you really think Carmona, or Sizemore will get traded? if sizemore gets traded his team option is a player option, so you wont get much for him, if he doesnt show anything, so it makes no sense to trade him this year, why would the best of the SP’s get sent or traded when we need him, not to mention a very team friendly deal? Kearns is the 4th OF, and wont be cut maybe traded at the deadline, Wegz is injured again who knows when he will be back dont count on seeing him till Sept, Kipnis may be staying in the minors all year

The Red Sox did Bubba a favor by trading him. With Kalish, Reddick, Nava and Linares also in Pawtucket there would be practically no playing time for Bubba. Now he’ll get regular PT on the Indian’s AAA team and is probably less blocked by better OF prospects there as well.
