Got it.
If the Phillies non-tender Kyle Kendrick, the Mariners should bring the righthander home to Seattle to help replenish a starting rotation depleted by the trade of Michael Pineda and others for Joey Votto.

So what is a fair value in a Votto trade? Pineda & League hardly feel like enough for the reigning MVP. Heck … if the M’s have money to burn, then lets swap 2Bers while we’re at it … Votto & Phillips for Pineda, Ackley, and a minor league player … M’s get two top flight major leaguers and the Reds get what they need … young ML ready players and salary relief

love votto, but with albert and prince in free agency it’s not a good market for first basemen right now. a rookie of the year caliber pitcher for 2 years of an MVP 1B isn’t far off, but the reds should prefer prospects instead of league
if votto is going to be traded, jocketty has to make it known in advance to induce a bidding war. toronto — already in love with votto and dead set on trading for top talent instead of signing it in free agency — isn’t likely to lose that war. they don’t have a pineda-caliber talent to offer, but they have a hell of a lot of other good stuff
end of the day, i expect alonso will be moved instead of votto. but i definitely think cincinnati should be fielding offers

Moving Alonso doesn’t make sense if the Reds should be interested in prospects IMO … Votto is at the top of his game and will be a lot cheaper than either Pujols or Fielder the next two seasons. Add in Pujol’s age & Fielder’s weight and it just makes Joey that much more valuable. I’d rather he signs a long term deal in Cincy … but baseball’s screwed up rev sharing doesn’t make that possible

sure, but the fact that it wouldn’t make sense doesn’t at all mean jocketty won’t do it

The Jays dont have Pineda type of talent? Look again. There farm system is STACKEd with high ceiling pitchers, maybe a year or two behind Pineda, but high upside. Keithlaw says the Jays have a top 3 farm system, a far cry from your Mariners.
Also, ever hear of Henderson Alvarez…if not, you will soon. A 21 year old holding his own in the AL East….pshhh

put down the duff, homer, and have a listen: i just said the jays were likely to win a bidding war specifically because they have a ton of talent in their system
what they don’t have, though, is a single pitcher that matches pineda’s talent, which is what cincinnati may prefer. i’ll wait for you to name the jays’ equivalent of top 20 prospect in america turned rookie of the year candidate. there’s no way i’m taking you seriously with henderson not-even-a-top-15-prospect-in-toronto-before-this-year alvarez

“a far cry from your Mariners …”
Keith Law also ranked 18-year-old Seattle pitching prospect Taijuan Walker 30th on his midseason prospect list. And the Mariners expect more immediate contributions from lefthanders James Paxton, a former first-round pick, and Danny Hultzen, the No. 2 overall pick in last June’s draft.

” Upton’s stats took a little hit as he would slump through 65 PAs over
that span, hitting .211/.292/.351. Was it news of scouts and trade
rumors that put him in a slump”
How funny. maybe that reporter should check Upton’s production over the last 3 seasons, then he would see that he has been in a “slump” since 2007….
