Ramirez Not Open To Position Change

By Zachary Links | November 14, 2011 at 11:06pm CDT

Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez is not at all pleased about the prospect of changing positions if the team signs Jose Reyes, a source tells Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald (via Twitter).  Spencer adds that the two players aren't the friends that many portray.

Late last month, club president David Samson said that the Marlins haven't discussed moving Ramirez away from shortstop or asking Ramirez about a position change.  A representative for Ramirez also said that the Marlins hadn't asked the soon-to-be 28-year-old to move from shortstop.

You also can’t spell it without “ez”, but Hanley prefers cash over the EZPass on the Whitestone.

Ah, Hanley, what a problem child you’ve been lately. The old-school Florida Marlins (the ones who had no interest in winning baseball games) would’ve flipped him for a huge payload by now because of that.

If they get Reyes and another big name hitter, I wonder what they could get for him in a trade. I don’t see that as a very likely scenario, but one has to wonder.

I’m still in a wait and see approach to see if the Marlins are serious about adding that much payroll, but signing Reyes at SS, Beltran to play LF, moving LoMo to 1B and trading Gabby and Hanley (not necessarily together) for a starter + prospects wouldn’t be totally out of character for the Marlins

I feel like they would trade LoMo before Gaby. Keep in mind Gaby is a Miami kid and since moving to Miami, Loria has embraced Hispanic heritage (to help bring in attendance=$ for Loria) so much that he is changing his name from Jeffrey to Jesus. Plus, I’m factoring in LoMo had his riff with upper management and I see Gaby having more talent than LoMo but not diminishing LoMo’s trade value. Regardless, I see this organization becoming a mess in the near future.

I am a Gabby Sanchez fan, but he does not have the same ceiling as LoMo. The rift with upper management could be a big factor, but the way I see it, you have to keep the most talented guys around whenever possible. Maybe Ozzie could be a buffer there and keep LoMo’s head on straight… I wouldn’t bet on it happening, but if they think there’s even a chance of it, I’d keep LoMo around. It will be interesting how the team dynamic ends up, because the discussion here of trading Hanley is pretty unlikely, so they could be left with hotheads at wherever Hanley plays, LF and in the dugout. That has Billy Martin and the Yanks written all over it

Well, in this fantasy land I have constructed where they’re planning to trade Hanley, they’d have the money for it.

Nuh-uh! They would need to win a championship first. THEN, they would proceed to get rid of everyone.

If the Marlins sign Reyes and Hanley balks at playing third, where he wants SS or nothing, it is easy to manage.  Ozzie calls him into the office and says hey kid, we are going to let you play SS…….  in triple A for a few more years.  You still have an option left and we will exercise it.  If that doesn’t get your attention, we have also arranged a trade to the …….  Houston Astros and you should see the playoffs in 2020 or later.  It is your choice.  Which do you prefer?  lol.

    1) This goes against what everyone, including Hanley, has said.
    2) Hanley is the godfather of one of Reyes’s kids. Unless they’ve had a massive fallout over the last year (and the last month considering what Hanley said just a month ago), this makes no sense.

Ramirez in 2015 & Ellsbury in 2014. But it’s not a fair trade at all, especially because Ramirez is coming off an injury (plus a bad year anyway) & Ellsbury’s coming off a career year.

I have to ask.   Does this type of behavior run in the Ramirez family?  First it was Manny being Manny, where it was me, me, me, or give me the money, and now it is Hanley being Hanley Ramirez.  Me, me, me, and who cares about anyone else.  Give me the money, let me do things my way and play where I want to play, or I will sulk and do nothing.  lol

Dont forget Aramis I refuse to be traded to help my team for the future with prospects, decline my 16 million option like an idiot and now left with very few options. Likely to make far less this coming season. Hold out for that 2-3 contract and fatten yourself up in the process!

if the marlins get reyes and hanley  wont give up ss trade him and lomo to oakland for gio gonzales and andrew bailey it gives the marlins a starting pitcher and closer and gives oakland some offence would be a good trade for both teams i think

This is all media hype…the past two weeks, all we’ve heard is that the Marlins are ‘confident’ that they’ll sign Jose, and that Hanley would not mind switching positions even though he has not yet been asked by management. Honestly, there’s nothing to ask yet…the Marlins have only had preliminary discussions with Jose about a contract. They’ll cross the ‘position switch’ bridge IF they even get to it. The media is hanging their hat on making the Mets look like a lowly franchise because of all their financial woes, so this story sort of continues the notion. They also want to stir up all of the talk that fans have been engaged in so that site traffic and readership increases. Don’t be a pawn to sports media. Look for substance and pure journalism! Just my two cents.
