Minor Moves: Davis, Quintanilla, Nelson

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | January 3, 2012 at 4:14pm CDT

Here's where we'll keep track of today's minor moves…

  • The Padres signed catcher Brad Davis to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to Spring Training, tweets MLB.com's Corey Brock. Davis, a San Diego native, appeared in 33 games with the Marlins in 2011.
  • The Mets signed Omar Quintanilla to a minor league contract, according to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. Quintanilla, 30, appeared in 11 games for the Rangers this past season and spent most of the year at Triple-A, where he posted a .298/.369/.452 line in 234 plate appearances. He'll provide the Mets with depth at shortstop.
  • The Rangers re-signed first baseman Brad Nelson to a minor league deal, tweets Anthony Andro of FOXSportsSouthwest.com. Nelson, a former top prospect, posted a .281/.360/.501 line with 24 homers at Triple-A last year. The 29-year-old made it to the Major Leagues as a member of the Brewers in 2008-09.

Just wait, he’ll suggest that the Mets trade Quintanilla, Knees, and Rite for Clayton Coleslaw, Andre Beaver, and Mike Pizza.

this could be a real good signing for the Mets if Omar is still taking performance enhancing drugs. While Reyes may not be worth the money, Omar clearly is.

sarcasm. another steroid cheat gets the opportunity to make hundreds of thousands while making a mockery of the sport and on top of that, is not good. Wilpon and his mouth piece Sandy already made a mockery of their fan base.

Don’t you ever talk about Sandy that way! This is a minor league deal, give him a break already.

I agree, as a die hard mets fan, it feels as if the mets have given up for this upcoming season…….I’d honestly would try to trade Wright for a top rotation starter……. Use turner and Murphy at second and third….hope bay turns it around this season while Murphy provides the offense he did last season, we would be able to compete with the east…………. It would bring back some fan base showing they haven’t given up on the season……One can only dream
