Minor Moves: Gonzalez, Hill, Barfield

By Zachary Links | April 29, 2012 at 3:56pm CDT

Today's minor moves..

  • The Cubs released Triple-A Iowa right-hander Edgar Gonzalez, tweets ESPN's Doug Padilla. Gonzalez, who had a 4.09 ERA and 12-to-2 K/BB in 11 innings will pursue opportunities in Asia.
  • The Reds signed catcher Koyie Hill, according to CBSSports.com's transactions page.  The 33-year-old signed with the Cardinals in January but was let go just over a month ago.  For his big league career, Hill owns a .211/.275/.298 slash line across parts of eight seasons.
  • The Orioles released Josh Barfield from Triple-A Norfolk to make room for right-hander Jason Berken, according to Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com.  The utility player has a .274/.313/.387 slash line in parts of six seasons at the Triple-A level.  The O's signed the 29-year-old to a minor league deal in late March.

I’ll trade 500 of my likes for Koyie Hill’s name.

Unfortunately, “likes” are not a recognized currency on this planet, so you can’t actually trade them for anything.

However, I believe that in America, anyone over 18 can legally change their name to anything they want. So go for it. 🙂

Yeah, but then HE’D still have it.

Also have you seen Facebook lately? Likes are the greatest form of currency for pseudo-celebrities that no one really heard of outside of Facebook.

I think this is the wrong Edgar Gonzalez, because he’s not a pitcher.

Edgar Gonzalez the hitter played for Iowa: http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=&sid=t451&t=p_pbp&pid=452989

Edgar Gonzalez the pitcher is with Colorado Springs:

Gonzalez the hitter was with the Yomiuri Giants in 2010, so he has overseas experience.

Iowa is the Cubs’ farm team. Colorado Springs is the Rockies’ farm team. Ergo, the Cubs released Edgar the infielder to play in Japan/Korea. They cannot release Edgar the pitcher, since he is Rockies property and pitching for the Sky Sox.
