Rockies Designate Esmil Rogers For Assignment

The Rockies have designated Esmil Rogers for assignment, the club announced (on Twitter). The move clears a roster spot for Jeff Francis, who officially re-joined the team that originally drafted him. He'll start today.

Rogers, 26, pitched to an 8.06 ERA with 10.2 K/9 and 6.3 BB/9 in 25 2/3 relief innings for Colorado this season. He is out of options and could not be sent to the minors without first clearing waivers. Rogers is still young and cheap, plus PitchFX has his fastball regularly in the mid-90s this season, so the Rockies should be able to find a trade partner within the next ten days.

Juan Francisco for Rogers. The Braves could use his power arm out of the pen plus he’s a starter so he could pitch long relief so we could cut Hernandez or Durbin

Francisco would be a mega overpay for this guy. Give them Gwinnett’s bat boy, and the Rockies still walk out winners in this deal…

Rogers is the right handed version of Franklin Morales. Thanks for taking talented arms and failing to cultivate them properly Bob Apodaca, worst pitching coach in the majors.

I would give anything for him to come to the A’s

Ah, yes he would. As disappointing as Francisco has been, Rogers is just painful to watch. Doesn’t throw strikes, but when he does through strikes, he gives up the big hit; every time…

I never said Francisco was any good. What I’m saying is that Rogers is so painfully bad, that by dumping him is addition by subtraction. I’m so tired of people saying “Well, he’s got good stuff.” That’s all good, but if you can’t harness it, you are useless…

Which is why someone is going to trade for him so he can harness it…
