Find it hard to believe the Indians wouldn’t do Jose Ramirez, Clint Frazier, and a throw-in for Todd Frazier. At some point, you have to go for it. That big bad top 3 rotation isn’t going to be this good (or belong to the Indians) forever.
A'sfaninUK
Also, what a massive step down from what they asked Cleveland for to what they ultimately took.
redsfanman
Jose Peraza>Jose Ramirez
The Reds got worse than the return they asked from the Indians, but better than the return the Indians offered.
kira
They got a better prospect back then they asked of the tribe Peraza is ranked higher then both of them right now
southbeachbully
Prospect ranking mean nothing in the real world. For every hot prospect that turns into an all-star you can probably find 1 that wasn’t a top 100 prospect.. At the AAA level and at a young age Ramirez at least showed ability to carry a strong OBP. Peraza hasn;t shown that yet.
JT19
Probably because they feel Frazier isn’t worth one of their top two prospects. A deal centered around a guy in the top 3-5 range and another prospect in the top 5-10 range (depending on how deep/good the farm is) is probably enough (an overpay in my opinion, but thats just my opinion since I don’t value Frazier that highly).
RedsNut1967
Have you ever seen Frazier consistently ? Great power bat and, more often than not.a really good glove at the hot corner.
sportscoach
What’s funny is that big bad rotation is under contract until 2020, Kluber and Carrasco then 2021 for Salazar and Bauer. They also this season have a wealth of starting pitchers trying to get the last spot, Tomlin, Anderson, House who all can pitch. When healthy all three guys have been sub 4 ERAs. Then have 3 more pitchers on the roster that will be at AAA. The Indians aren’t willing to trade Frazier since he is projected to be there RF of the future. He also can play 3rd if Urshela fails. I am not myself afraid to trade Frazier and they would have parted with him if Todd Frazier had a few more years of control
RollTribe
Frazier is a scrub.. Dude was terrible in the second half and as an Indians fan I’m glad they didn’t give up Clint Frazier or Zimmer for him.. He’s only got 2 years left and just an FYI the Indians starters are all locked up for 5 more years..
dhud
A scrub?? Even with a terrible second half, which it was, no denial here, the guy hit about .270 with 35 HRs and was a gold glove candidate. If that’s a “scrub,” I’ll take 9 scrubs for my team please
kira
You mean that they asked for a top 40 prospect and ended up getting a top 30 prospect i dont see where the problem is?
giantorange
I think he means, Cleveland asked for Salazar and ended up getting what they got instead.
jedihoyer
pereza isn’t a top 30 prospect.
kira
Can you please show me a prospect list without him in the top 30?
pitnick
Baseball Prospectus, MLB.com, Baseball America, and John Sickels all had him out of the top 30 last year (#92, #38, #54, #43 respectively). Won’t see most of the big 2016 lists for a few months yet, but I don’t see that he did much in the last year to warrant moving up in the rankings.
Which have him in the top 30?
kira
Mlb.com right now has him at 24 and that’s just 1 of the places you listed. On BA list you knock off all the no longer prospects and guess what again top 30 please keep up your list are a year old
harmony55
Baseball America had Jose Peraza No. 26 in its midseason prospect ranking released on July 7:

Toksoon
Everyone the newest rankings came out and he’s no lower than 25th

the white sox should trade quintana for that of’r and a solid bullpen piece and just roll with sale, rodon, johnson, chris beck and sign someone like fister on a make good deal. then they have fulmer and spencer adams maybe ready next year. i mean quintana for that package the braves got for miller would really have been all they needed, moves eaton to RF, blair slots in for quintana, swanson and anderson fight for short next year all while remaining competetive, and they probably could have gotten even more.
Joe McMahon
Quintana is so much better than Miller, it’s not even funny.
southbeachbully
In what regard? Their stats this year are almost identical except Miller accumulated a lot of losses playing for a pretty bad team and getting little support.
jedihoyer
hence me saying they could have got more, however it was an overpay by arizona to begin with so it evens out. but quintana has more team control and is more proven, miller has higher upside but quintana is a steady performer.
JT19
No team trying to contend is trading their #2 pitcher unless he’s really bad or they got blown out of the water for him. Plus that’s putting way to much faith into a team with a lot of rookies/younger guys. I know the Cubs just did that but they also had guys with championship experience, multiple other veterans and a manager, who is widely considered one of the better managers currently in the game, with a good amount of experience. The White Sox current roster might’ve checked off the veterans box on that list, but don’t have anywhere close to as good of and experienced manager like Maddon.
jedihoyer
their window is as long as they have sale, therefore they can kind of contend this year while being a possible favorite in 2017.
JSH9491
Eaton doesn’t have a right fielder’s arm..
michaelw
Theo wanted me to ask you. Will give Solar, Bez, Hammel, Wood, for Sales. Just asking.
CaliWhiteSoxFan
Who is Sales?
Joe McMahon
If I were the Indians, I probably would have given up Frazier and a mid level prospect or two. That seems like a reasonable request. I would NOT have given up Salazar, good for them for not caving on that request.
sportscoach
Umm…it really wasn’t enough of an upgrade to get Frazier to actually trade a top prospect for him. I honestly didn’t want anyone else to play 3B since Urshela should be there next season and he is actually better defensively than Frazier. Frazier actually is an above average guy at 3rd but Urshela should eventually win a gold glove. Cleveland wasn’t willing to trade that much for a guy who was under control for two seasons.

Do the Reds really view the Ohio rivalry that big if a deal they would demand THAT much more from the Indians than what they received?
redsfanman
The Reds demanded a lot for Frazier from several teams; Clearly none met those demands, for months. In the end they had to go with some guys – Peraza and Schebler – who they value higher than the market.
I don’t believe for a second that any rivalry factored in, or that the Indians were treated any differently in negotiations. Several teams have complained about high asking prices for Chapman, Frazier, and Bruce… and pretty much every other player the Reds have traded in years has been surrounded by accusations that the Reds asked for too much.
sportingdissent
Not trading for Frazier is going to bite the Indians in the ass. Lots of teams talking about their over-evaluation of players though, not just the Reds. Sounds like either they don’t want to deal or their front office is delusional.
basquiat
All of the above.
Polish Hammer
Not worth giving up that much for only two years of Frazier. If he does well he’s as good as gone in 2917, if he doesn’t then you sit back and watch the young stars you dealt Cincy play well for years to come.
Priggs89
Well, at least they’ll have him for 900 more years if he does well.
captainballz
The Reds would’ve done better to just take Montas, Trayce, and Micah from the Sox than to involve LA and settle for the crap they got.
Just a dumb trade.
Scottie123
You lack perspective. It was an solid move for an organization early in its rebuilding stages. The Reds Scouts
sportingdissent
The Reds got the best overall prospect, the Dodgers got more low ceiling guys closer to ready. I think both teams got what they needed,, it’s just the White Sox got the best end of this deal. People focus too much on OBP and a bad six weeks for Frazier. The dude is a stud on both sides of the ball.
