Danys Baez To Retire

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | February 27, 2012 at 3:56pm CDT

After a decade of pitching in the Major Leagues, Danys Baez will retire, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. Legacy Sports Group represents the 34-year-old right-hander.

Baez broke in with the 2001 Indians and started 26 games for the Tribe the following season. He was soon converted to a closer and went on to save 25-plus games in three consecutive seasons for the Indians and Devil Rays. He posted a 6.25 ERA in 36 innings for the 2011 Phillies before getting released. The 2005 All-Star earned approximately $43MM in his career, according to Baseball-Reference.

What a world we live in where Danys Baez can make 40 million in a 10 year career.

Congrats, Danys, on parlaying utter mediocrity into a frickin’ fortune !

Two retirees in less than 10 minutes?! How will we cope?

The same way everyone else will: Ignore Baez’ retirement and only focus on Varitek’s.

Seems like ancient history when he was found on the scrap heap by TB and had those 2 miracle seasons.

like was posted above.. The retirees will be coming fast & furious for a little bit now.. P & C especially after many didn’t find the deals they were looking for and no more opportunities out there.

I love that when a player retires the majority of the mlbtraderumor community just  bashes on them instead of congratulating them on an amazing career.

Relax guy with 2 comments. It’s all in good fun. I’m sure most of us realize that even the mediocre players played at the highest level and achieved far more than us.

Guy just completely fell apart and was really good at one point and just had terrible injuries that completely broke that guy down and he could never get it back together.
