Mets Considering Third Tier Options

I'll call them third tier options, because these pitchers probably don't belong in the Weaver/Ohka class.  The Mets aren't likely to sign either of those two, so Ken Rosenthal says they're looking at Jorge Sosa, Ramon Ortiz, and Aaron Sele.  Sosa at least has a decent arm, so he might be the best of the trio.  According to the New York Post, Sosa is close to signing with the Mets.

Rosenthal also mentions that the Padres have some other options aside from David Wells.  They could snag Brian Lawrence, Chan Ho Park, or Jeff Weaver instead.  They've also got some interest in trading for Geoff Jenkins to play left.

Some center field options for the Fish include David Murphy, Franklin Gutierrez, B.J. Upton, and Elijah Dukes.  Fantasy leaguers hope it's Upton.

I am kind of surprised that the Mets and Cards haven't shown much interest in Park or Lawrence on a one year tryout deal, they are starting arms which both seem kind of light on still, and could easily fill a spot till Pedro/Mulder get healthy.

Nice to see one of the Tribe OFers mentioned as a possible trade canidate, we only have about 11 of um ready to play daily in the bigs. One of Ben Francisco/Frankie G/Choo-Choo are bound to be headed out with Grady/Blake/David D./Michaels taking up four spots already. The Fish would be a nice trade partner, I like their prospects and they could provide another starter to let Bryd/Westbrook leave in FA next year...

I'm actually hoping it's Dukes, as I own him in my minor league system.

Dear Roto,

Just wondering if your Mets source felt the Haren deal would happen, or if he just said "well if it does, Devaney etc. would be part of it too."
