Grudzielanek Leaves Game
UPDATE: Turns out Grudz is just day-to-day with knee soreness. The Mets deny any rumor that they've traded for him. Two Royal false alarms today, sorry about that.
A friendly emailer tells me that Royals second baseman Mark Grudzielanek was in the original lineup, but was scratched at the last minute. Joe Girardi says he may be headed to the Mets. We'll keep you posted. And now back to my sweet n' sour chicken.
And an update on Reggie Sanders: according to Girardi, Reggie was just shipping his kids' stuff off to Arizona, where they'll go to school. False alarm.

Interesting.. I wonder where he's going.. and if he is coming to the Mets, I wonder who we gave up for him.

So let me get this straight, your eating Sweet and Sour Chicken? You should make it spicy, it's always better! No. I don't want the Mets to get anybody!

Oh No.. I hope it's fake..
I'm getting really tired of Omar Minaya and is old guys.. Gotay is batting .330+, what? he needs to bat .600 to get the starting job..
He keeps bringing veterans whose bodies are falling apart.. Didn't he learned something from DL master Alou..

And Grudzielanek is signed for next season as well for 8 million and if he reaches 450 AB's he gets 8.5 million.. I think, not sure.. Either way, don't like it.

Grudz is still better than anyone the Mets have at 2nd right now...though I agree the old guy thing is kind of tired.

Mets fans boggle my mind. The "old guy"..the 37 year old..outperformed every AL 2nd basemen to win the Gold Glove and he is not as good as Gotay? Who couldn't even get a starter job in KC??
Come on..Gotay is a AAAA at best having a good year. You want that grizzled veteran with all that experience if you want the series.

Not quite.
If only there was some sort of way to check for this kind of info before posting it. Like say a website specifically designed for contract information. Or hell, even some sort of site that could maybe be an engine for searching information.
Mark Grudzielanek 2b
1 year/$4M (2007), plus 2008 player option
08:$4M player option
2008 option guaranteed with 500 plate appearances in 2007 (increases to $4.5M with 550 PAs in 2007)

I wouldnt go as far as to say Gotay is a Quad A player,,, Gotay is a decent young player with talent. However, Grudz in NY could be huge up the middle. Reyes/Grudz on defense? NICE! That and he can hit consistently .300. I'd like to have a guy like Gotay on the bench though for his power, could be a nice late inning replacement if needed.
Depending on who we traded for him... thats the deal breaker.. that and if this is true or not.. lol

People who bring up Gold Gloves boggle my mind, as it is a freaking horrible award that means absolutely nothing. Though I agree Gotay is a scrub he is a scrub that doesn't cost the mets whatever they would need to trade for Grudz, and the 6 million bucks they would have to pay him for the rest of this season and next.

Didn't he just come back from knee surgery? Mets and all their injured players♥. (If true), I really do like this move. With Valentin gone, we do need good defense at 2nd (Gotay is still young, but a potential star) Now can we fix our bullpen, please??

Gold gloves mean nothing until you've seen Gotay field the ball...

As for Grudz's defense, it's suffered this year because of his knee injuries. His range is way down and he's having a below average season defensively.
And on his contract: His option next season is for $4 million - not $8 million as another poster said. He needs 500 plate appearances to trigger the option. Currently, he's at 282 so he's no lock for that.

Contreras just gave up 9 runs in 4 2/3. I think he's done, and certainly isn't being traded for anything useful.
Posted by: buehrlebro | July 25, 2007 at 09:28 PM
lmao Contreras is terrible.
Posted by: tinathemetsgrl | July 25, 2007 at 09:30 PM
12 hits too.

Who cares. And, who cares. I don't give a crap about scrubs.

"Who cares. And, who cares. I don't give a crap about scrubs."
We will all keep that in mind.

Well, league average defense would be a good start. Theres no doubt he can swing it lefty, but he is brutal at second base. He has already cost the mets 2 games alone with his glove this year. He also cant hit righties and doesnt fit in the number 2 spot because he swings at almost everything. Grudz would be a nice pickup if we only give up a few lower level prospects. I wonder what it would take to get Eckstein to come over and play second. Loretta would be nice also. I wouldnt mind if they stick with Gotay, but his de has to improve or we would be better off just sending out Anderson Hernandez, because come a playoff stretch I would much rather have a glove then a bat at second base.

agreed the Mets have enough offense already. if this rumor is true then the Braves need Teixeira to keep up with that Mets offense.

yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: bravesrule14 | July 25, 2007 at 10:28 PM
I thought this trade didn't happen.
Posted by: Chipper | July 25, 2007 at 10:32 PM
doesn't mean it still won't happen. I would think the Mets are waiting till the midnight hour on deadline day to decide if Gotay is good enough.

I hate the Mutts!
Posted by: Chipper | July 25, 2007 at 10:40 PM
Mutts? Chipper? Braves fan much?
I ♥ the Mets, but yeah, they need more offense, or a bench player. But more importantly, bullpen.
