I thought you said that he would have the ability to veto a trade to the Red Sox. Perhaps you meant the former two teams, not the latter two?

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I'm almost positive the Mets are on his "Can't Veto" list.

For my money, a Gagne aquisition improves the Red Sox more than Dye could.
(though now I'm paranoid about the health of Papi)

Papi can just DH if he isn't healthy enough to play the field.

If the D-Rays can spin Wheeler for Balentien, Adam Jones, Jeff Clement, or a top prospect from the Mets (Gomez, Milledge) or Indians (Lofgren), then Astros fans should stage a demonstration of some sort outside MMP until Purpura is fired or demoted.
Tar & Feathers are needed!

I might be bias as a red sox fan but why did Gagne put the red sox on that list? I mean when they signed the deal the Yankees and mets had a closer and the red sox still had not even signed Pinero....it just doesn't make sense to me.
Another thing that doesn't make sense is how would this hut Gagne as a free agent? because to me that is the only reason that would cross his mind not to go to a contender and set up for them. Think about it entering the off season and Gagne pitches great as a set up man for a contender, helps them to a championship and proves himself healthy who would think twice that he wouldn't be able to handle the job as a closer in 08? I don't think any team. But in the end maybe he wants his incentives guaranteed (any team would do) or he is just VERY uncomfortable as a set up man

I'm sure the Mets like Wheeler, but he isn't worth anything near a Milledge or a Gomez. Maybe a Mulvey.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a Gagne and Sosa or Wilkerson to the Mets deal. The Mets could really use the bullpen help, and Sosa or Wilkerson would make a great platoon partner with Green in RF. Only problem there is what happens when Beltran comes back? Milledge has shown he deserves to start, and you can't sit Alou. Green and Sosa/Wilk both on the bench? Eesh...

according to WHB 810 ESPN radio in Kansas City, the Royals have said that this deal is not complete. It is simply an offer at the moment.
Thank goodness, because I would love to see Wladimir Balentein in Royal Blue.

Buddy Bell just confirmed in Minnesota that there are currently no trades pending for the Royals, even for medical checks.

Why would they think Upton has any better chance of succeeding than Quentin?
Why would the Rangers trade Benoit?

Why would you want to platoon Wilkerson and Green in RF since both bat LH?
Posted by: RICH | July 30, 2007 at 05:37 PM
Gagne, would you care to set up for Billy Wagner :)please?
Posted by: Zemonstar | July 30, 2007 at 06:05 PM
Wilkerson actually hits lefties better than he hits righties. Whether it's enough to consider platooning him.... maybe not.
I like the idea of platooning Sosa and Green, but I don't want the two of them on my bench.,, especially if Endy and/or Gomez are ready to come back

i agree with you, Sosa would be the better choice. Weren't the Mets also going for Jay Payton?
