« Dodgers To Scout Contreras On Friday | Main | Rockies Rotation In Shambles »
Marlins president David Samson indicated yesterday that starter Scott Olsen would not be welcome on the team if convicted of charges of DUI and resisting arrest. Apparently the felony designation is the tipping point for Samson, who seemingly would not boot Dontrelle Willis off the team if convicted of only a DUI.
To be fair, Willis has had just the one incident while Olsen has had at least six. Many teams could match up if the Marlins decide to trade Olsen this winter - the Diamondbacks, Phillies, Royals, and Devil Rays come to mind. The Fish probably still need a center fielder.

Drunk driving okay, drunk driving and sitting in a lawn chair bad.

So you call me out for my little one-liners that aren't directed at anyone in specific and then proceed to start mentioning my (pretend) name in various other threads. Which do you think hurts the site more; my throwaway one-liners or your obsession?

your ridiculous NY bias, thats what hurts the site more.

The Mets will trade Gomez for Olson and Gregg in the offseason.

At least he's posting about baseball.

themfightnwords, You suck, go away. He isnt the one who called John Maine things like washed up, a junkballer, and a journeymen, when he is not washed up, 26 and on his second team of his career, and throws 94 with ease. He may be sturggling now, butyou were just so wrong with your analysis. Thats like me calling Brian Bannister a fireballer. I dont particularly love NJM, but he posts more contructive stuff then you, your like a little girl holding a grudge because NJM got your prom date or something. Your actually tryin to stir things up because this guy makes his little comments about the Redsox, which im sure most find somewhat amusing. Go to myspace.com or something and go chat there if you are so intent on arguing because the other man said a mean joke.

"The Mets will trade Gomez for Olson and Gregg in the offseason."
Its a thought, stuff wise Olsen has been my favorite Marlin pitcher for the past few years, but man that guy has some issues. I dont think I would trade Gomez for him at this point, but I would not be devestated, I think Olsen has star like potential, he is just a psychopath and needs to work on that. Good arm thoguh

The Mets would be very smart if they went after Olsen. That guy has great stuff...

Olsen's the classic $100 body, ten cent head guy. He's talented, but the way he conducts himself you'd think he's Johan Santana. I don't see the Marlins actively seeking to get rid of Gregg, but that proposal doesn't seem that unreasonable.

I don't think the fish are that foolish to deal such a talented arm as Olsen within the same division... But, they did deal Delgado to the Mets... I could see the Phillies taking a flyer on Olsen if Moyer was going to stay around for another couple of years... Look at what he has done for Cole Hamels... Moyer has tutored Cole to the point that he wouldn't be the pitcher he is today without him... He taught him to pay the price and fly straight... Remember that Cole got into a bar fight and broke his hand in AA... He still has a horrible back that he used to go on the DL for all the time... Moyer taught him to settle down and treat his body right... Pay the price..... I could see him doing that with Olsen, but I think he'll retire before he'll be of any influence to him....

They also traded Loduca to the Mets. I think that trade of Gomez to the Marlins is a great fit as De Aza isn't more than a 4th outfielder with poor defense. Gomez would win many gold gloves and has the potential to be at least Kenny Lofton.

Uhhh... I dont think the phils would be taking him after Olsen openly said he hates the Phillies...just a guess.

no way in hell would I trade Gomez for Olsen. The kid is good but not great and he's got problems. Know what that would mean in NY? No thanks..

No way in hell would I trade Olsen and Gregg for just Gomez.
Plus DeAza has been solid for us, our primary need is a catcher. If we moved him we would send him out west like Seattle for Jeff Clement.
There is no reason to send him to the mets of all places.
Sending them an overpaid old LoDuca and Old overpaid Delgado is very different then sending them a young lefty with the potential to be an ace.
Also Sampson is an idiot and doesnt run the decisions of the team, on the show he stated that right before and after the comments. It is funny the national media never hears the interviews often and swipes one part and twists it out there. Stupid Miami Herald.
Olsen will be going nowhere
Posted by: Baseballfan79 | August 17, 2007 at 07:09 AM
Yeah that's a real smart measure to use... Let's go off of what Olsen said about the Phils there...
By that logic, I would assume that no Yankee would ever have become a Red Sox or vice versa...
Same for Dodger to Giant, Padre or anywhere in the NL West...
Come on man... Where is that logic... Myers said he hates NY... Does that mean he would never play for the Mets ??? I assure you he would... Olsen would definately play for the Phillies if they traded for him and it meant his career was on the line... This isn't the NBA, the players aren't the judge, jury and governers of the league...
