Andruw Wants To Stay...Sort Of

I'd take it with a grain of salt, but Braves center fielder Andruw Jones had this to say yesterday regarding his future:

"If they want me here, I'll be here.  It just depends on what the Braves want to do.  We'll have to see what happens. Hopefully, they'll come up with something. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't."

I don't know about you, but that's not entirely convincing.  I do believe that Jones will wait to see what Atlanta offers before testing the free agent waters.  Jones made $13.5MM this year and was awful.  Both parties might be amenable to a one-year, $14-15MM deal.  Scott Boras typically encourages his clients to declare free agency, though, and if Andruw does that he'll probably find a better offer elsewhere.

1 year at $13 or $14 seems reasonable by both parties. Why do I have a feeling that the Nats or SF will come in with a stupid $4/70m offer?

Even though he's been a good part of the team in the past, Atlanta just needs to cut ties with him unless they can sign him at a huge discount for like 2/$24m or 3/$33m.

Keeping him around for another year at a modest raise seems to make sense for both sides. The Braves don't really have an appealing alternative (though I insist that Gregor Blanco has been short-changed by the organization) and he's cost himself a meaningful ammount of money with his poor performace this season. It's fair to assume that his bat will trend back towards his career numbers (essentially posting the fiugres he put up in 2002-2004) as should his defense, so he'll be a fine player in a filthy line-up that plays solid defense. I'm warming to the idea, but it won't hurt me either way.

"3/$33m"

So less than J.D. Drew, Adrian Beltre, Troy Glaus, Paul Kornerko, Carlos Lee, or Johnny Damon make a year.

You might be underestimating Boras' abilities. Yes he's an asshole but give the guy credit- he is also a genius. At this point i would still accpect andruw to sign a mutli-year deal with a different team.

Jones' comments dont mean anything. It seems like players sometimes say this when they know that they will or they want to move just to make the fans blame management instead of the player. Damon tried this move when he darted for NY but fans saw past him.

Is it really accpect? Keep calling me ignorant and keep bashing my knowledge of the english language. Good job.

Pssst you both have tiny dongs get over it.

Themfightnwords - take a step back, check out www.baseball-reference.com, www.google.com, and www.baseballprospectus.com before you make another post from now on.

nrmax88- Not much, everything you post is colored pro-met, but I can live with that. We all do it. You are far more rational than Bsox21. Stop pushing in the sandbox, and we will all be better off. You both do that and I promise to stop making things up when I drunken post on the internet at 3-4 a.m. Everybody wins.

are you that pathetic that you take the time to make sure you have spelled everything correctly on time? I wish i had that kind of time i'm not just not as pathetic as you are.

*online not on time

Actually spelling expect, with an "a" and 2 "c's" has little to do with a spell check, and more to do with just not being an idiot. I would have never mentioned it, only I found it ironic that you constantly call me ignorant, and say I dont understand the english language, yet you cant spell a simple word like "expect". Its not like it was a typo either, you do know that expect and accept are two entirely different words dont you?

hahaha...

"Actually spelling expect, with an "a" and 2 "c's" has little to do with a spell check, and more to do with just not being an idiot."

Sorry, but that is just classic...

My efforts were wasted.

but yes, that was quite funny.

When i said you dont understand english well it was pretty clear that meant the language itself- not spelling. Why would i give a flying f*ck about spelling.

fo schizzle. y the frig car bout englysh.?

Tfw,

He understood the language enough to know the difference between "accept" and "except" didn't he...

My opinion is to let Andruw walk and let that 15 million go toward signing a free agent CF such as c patterson, a rowand, or mike cameron, and also signing a veteran pitcher, or using than 15 million for the increase in salary that a veteran pitcer will bring in a trade, or using that money to throw towards TEX in a hope of resigning him

"fo schizzle. y the frig car bout englysh.? "

Damn, thats 2 classics in one night Arod. You have my vote for the funniest poster on MLBTR right now. That reminded me of the scene from airplane.
