« Johan Santana To Buy Home Near Minneapolis | Main | Neal Huntington To Helm Pirates »
Tigers catcher Ivan Rodriguez has a $13MM option for '08 with a $3MM buyout attached. Last we'd heard, the Tigers were likely to exercise it for lack of a better option.
Tom Gage of the Detroit News believes not only that the Tigers will exercise the option, but that privately the team has already committed to it. Gage mentions that Pudge is seen as a symbol of the team's rebirth and that he's been far too jovial in the clubhouse for a guy with an uncertain future. Wow, that last sentence was really poorly written.
Gage also adds that Nate Robertson is the Tiger most likely to be traded. Robertson's salary will climb past $4MM in arbitration. Personally I think they should hang on to him instead of selling low. But even following an off year he'd be highly sought after this winter. I like Robertson quite a bit in the NL. He could have a Ted Lilly-like transformation.
Gage mentions a $20MM escalation in payroll for current players, but I've found the net effect to be a $7.5MM increase.

Robertson's having a pretty typical year for him, it's just that he's given up more hits than he normally does. He's had a year much like Chris Capuano for the Brewers. The peripherals are consistent with his career, but he's allowed more than his fair share of hits. Robertson would be a bargain in the NL at $4MM per.

How would a Brent Lillibrige for Robertson trade sound. The Tigers need a pure SS and move Guillen to 1st and the Braves need another left handed starter.

Any comments on Buster Olney's article about LAD making the biggest move for A-ROD..I LIKE IT

Scratch that..... By Pudge, I meant Posada

Balls... I was really hoping they would decline it and he would come catch for the Mets. Now we need to go balls out for Pudge and pry him away from the Evil Empire...

Hey Met fan you might want to look at your pitching staff first, haha.

Heh a 3rd place, 5.5 out of the wildcard braves fan laughing at the Mets. Cool.

How about Brent Lillibidge for Jair Jurrjens, or however you spell it.
Tiger would get speedy young SS and the braves would get what they love "young arms".

Jurrjens has pitched well, Lillibridge hasn't done anything in the majors, and starting pitching > anything right now in the market, I don't see such a deal.
I still think the best chance the Braves have of getting pitching would be a so-so veteran for Renteria.

Jayson Stark floated the idea of Tigers going after ARod today in his chat, that might not be all that feasible but to even consider it, the Tigers must be fairly flexible in their payroll, I would think they'll keep Robertson and Pudge and go for it again.

That's going to cost Ilitch a lot of Pizza

JerseyMetFan:
Man, those are some nice numbers! Sure, Maine's had a 6.16 ERA and 1.56 WHIP since the All-Star Break and Pedro only has two starts under his belt (his replacements - Lawrence, Pelfrey and Sosa - were awful) but still. Speaking of WHIP, Perez's has been 1.53 since the Break as well, but who cares, right? Oh, and what was up with Wagner last month? Anyway, how do you think Glavine will fare back in a Braves uniform next year?

"Man, those are some nice numbers! Sure, Maine's had a 6.16 ERA and 1.56 WHIP since the All-Star Break"
Oh man I didn't realize that the second half is all that matters. Is the first half just warmups? Give me a break.
"and Pedro only has two starts under his belt (his replacements - Lawrence, Pelfrey and Sosa - were awful) but still."
Pedro has three starts, his fourth being tonight. Do the research before you open your mouth.
"Speaking of WHIP, Perez's has been 1.53 since the Break as well, but who cares, right?"
I've already addressed your love affair with the second half. Spare me.
"Oh, and what was up with Wagner last month?"
He had a bad month. Fortunately, he's a top closer, and his numbers are still awesome, even after an atrocious month.
"Anyway, how do you think Glavine will fare back in a Braves uniform next year?"
I don't really care. I personally think he'll stay. If he goes, he goes. He's not an integral part of this team.
