« Odds and Ends: Guillen, Crede, Hamilton, Boone | Main | Bay To Indians Talks Revived, Then Dead Again? »
UPDATE, 12-5-07 at 2:22pm: I was just speculating below, but it turns out the Brewers actually did talk to the D'Backs about Valverde. However the teams don't seem to match up.
FROM 12-4-07 at 10:52pm:
According to ESPN's Enrique Rojas, the Diamondbacks are listening to offers for closer Jose Valverde. They feel they've got the bullpen depth to cover his loss. This trade possibility is nothing new to MLBTR readers, as it was first mentioned on November 6th. Valverde figures to get a $3MM raise for '08, to about $5MM.
No mention of possible suitors, but maybe the Brewers and Astros would be interested?

What would the D'Backs be looking for in return? I would imagine it would be quite alot.
If that was thw case, I can't see any team giving up what it would take to acquire him.

He would be a perfect fit for what the Rangers are looking for in their bullpen. But I'm not sure there would be a match there unless the Backs happened to be keen on Padilla ; )

The Mets could use him as setup. It would suck if you're down in the 8th and have to face Valverde followed by Wagner.
What would the D-Backs be looking for in return? Starting pitching?

D-Backs would absolutely be looking for a solid starter, and probably some bench help as well.
Look at the D-Backs rotation and you'll see that it needs a lot of help if they hope to contend next year.

Unless the Brewers were willing to move Manny Parra for Valverde, I can't see how this deal would make sense for either team.
